A lot of artists have started their own initiatives to help people in need in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kapuso actress and host Maine Mendoza started a fundraising drive for workers affected by the quarantine.

On Maine’s blog, she mentioned the widespread impact of the pandemic on Filipino employees.

“We are all required to stay at home, but some people, especially our frontliners, whether be it in the government, food and medical industry have been trying their best to fulfill their duty as our modern heroes on these difficult times.”

And as a way of helping, she then decided to launch a drive for the employees who were affected.

“I will be launching my DoNation Drive to help in my own little way, those who are greatly affected by this catastrophe.”

On her Twitter account, the Eat Bulaga host tweeted a link to her fundraising drive called DoNation Drive.

Hi everyone! Given the difficult situation we are all facing, I thought of starting the DoNation drive today. This is to help the employees who are not allowed to work because of the community lockdown.

In a follow-up tweet and update, Maine posted a summary of the donations that she got and sent to those in need.

Here’s the summary of the donations received and sent yesterday. Please bear with me as I am the only one working on this. I’ll keep you posted on the DoNation drive blog. Maraming salamat po! 😊 pic.twitter.com/IsGk7EKTrb

Other stars like Bela Padilla, who also started a donation drive for the street vendors, successfully raised 3 million pesos by also opening a GoGetFunding page.

Kapamilya star Angel Locsin posted pictures of the crowds where she stated that, “Sa gitna po ng paglaganap ng CoVid19, walang sinoman na nasa matinong pag-iisip ang magnanais na lumabas sa matataong lugar para mahawa at makahawa ng sakit.”

She noted that Filipinos rely on their jobs in order to support their everyday needs, such as rent, electricity, and water, through calls for social distancing and proper hygiene. “Marami rin po sa kanila ay mga contract workers, mga self-employed, maliliit na manininda na walang tiyak na kita sa araw-araw at baon sa utang,” she said.

Angel has urged the government to offer financial support to workers affected by community quarantine.
