Julie Anne San Jose joined the growing number of celebrities who are now speaking out against the government.

In a tweet Tuesday, March 31, San Jose reacted to President Rodrigo Duterte’s statement on the death of the country’s medical front liners.

In his pre-taped public address Monday, March 30, President Duterte praised and thanked the medical front liners for dying in the line of duty. According to Duterte, these medical front liners were lucky to die as heroes because of their role in the country’s battle against COVID-19.

“It would be an honor to die for your country, I assure you,” he added.

Luh you don't have to die to be a hero https://t.co/evXoyqVLks

Julie Anne did not agree with his opinion, stating, “Luh you don’t have to die to be a hero.”

Aside from Julie Anne, Duterte’s statements also didn’t sit well with many netizens.

It was unnecessary deaths, panu mo nasabi na suwerte? The government could have prevented it if ready sila sa crisis or if maaga nagkatravel ban from China. Do not romanticized na namatay sila sa bayan. It should have been the gov purpose to protect them.

Swerte din ba yung pamilya nilang hindi sila nakita man lang or nabigyan ng maayos na paalam? These people died ALONE. A lot of these deaths were preventable kung umaksyon lang kayo ng maaga. They fought for the country but this inept government didn't fight for them.
