“If she’s Darna, then I’m Captain Barbell!”, that’s what James Reid said when he heard how Nadine Lustre reacted to the possibility that she will be offered the role of Darna, in an interview by MJ Felipe on TV Patrol.
Immediately after James uttered those words, JaDine fans started sharing photoshopped pictures of the two, with Nadine as Darna and James as Captain Barbell. Social media was full of talk among fans who were excited at the possibility that the JaDine love team can play those superhero roles.
JaDine fans have been pitching Nadine to take the iconic role of Darna ever since Angel Locsin backed out of the movie because of her spinal injury. In fact, in an online survey conducted by PUSH. Nadine was voted by netizens as the top choice to play Darna.
Almost 5 out of 10 or 48% of the almost 6000 respondents chose Nadine over Liza Soberano, who got 25% of the votes. Kathryn Bernardo came in third with 8% of the votes, followed by Maja Salvador with 7% and Jessy Mendiola with 4%.
Up to now, there is no formal announcement by ABS-CBN as to who will replace Angel Locsin in the movie. That’s why Kapamilya fans are guessing up to now, who would fly as Darna.
Asked if she would like to be the Mars Ravelo heroine, Nadine said she has not received any formal offer yet but she’s more than willing to take on the role. She said, “It’s a privilege na maging Darna ka. Bigyan nila ako ng gym time, bigyan nila ako ng time mag train.” (It’s a privilege to be Darna. Let them give me some time at the gym, give me time to train.)
“Darna” is not an easy character to play. The actress has to be physically fit and brave enough to do those fight as well as flying scenes while on a harness. Angel Locsin trained for two years to be ready for it. Would Nadine rise to the challenge, if she is tapped by ABS-CBN for Darna?
Her love team partner, believes that she can. James said, “She could do it. I told her she could do it.” Asked by MJ if Nadine has the body for Darna, James answered without hesitation, “Yes, she does.”
Will ABS-CBN listen to what the JaDine fans want when it comes to the Darna movie? We will have to wait for their formal announcement regarding the heroine, to see if they follow the sentiment of the fans.
