Robin Padilla is under fire after posting several erroneous historical claims on social media. He caught the attention and ire of several Netizens and social media personalities after sharing false information about Lapu-Lapu and the De La Salle University.

In separate social media posts, Padilla defended Sen. Bong Go’s recent blunder regarding the historical accounts about Lapu-Lapu.

During his speech at the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mactan on Tuesday, April 27, Go falsely claimed that Lapu-Lapu is from Sulu and not a native of Mactan, Cebu, as opposed to historical accounts.

Due to such, Go got highly criticized. Padilla being a die-hard Duterte supporter (DDS) and propagandist; and known to be close to the senator, defended the latter. He said that there’s nothing wrong with what Go claimed.

Padilla even went to the point of saying no one knew the history of Lapu-Lapu since there’s no video footage to prove historians’ claims.

Because of his statements, popular social media personality and satire blogger– The Professional Heckler shared a quote from P.J. O’Rouke about people’s stupidity, ignorance, greed, and love for power.

"Anyway, no drug, not even alcohol, causes the fundamental ills of society. If we're looking for the source of our troubles, we shouldn't test people for drugs, we should test them for stupidity, ignorance, greed and love of power."

Kapuso journalist Sandra Aguinaldo also reacted to Padilla’s remarks, saying there’s a historical account written by Antonio Pigfetta as shared by former PCOO Sec. Manolo Quezon.

Netizen @anjpessumal meanwhile asked the media if they can stop giving Padilla the platform to spread false claims and irrelevant views.

The need to push for teaching history in schools is a clear reflection of the controversy on Padilla and Bong Go’s ignorance of Philippine history, said @leecandelaria.

This Lapu-Lapu/Magellan hullabaloo is a perfect teachable moment! Historians and teachers should take this opportunity to use Bong Go and Robin Padilla’s ignorance to teach the basics of history, historical sources, and source criticism. Listen to @podkas_ to learn more!

Meanwhile, aside from his Lapu-Lapu claim, Padilla also made rounds in social media after he claimed that the De La Salle University was founded by the Spaniards.

“Are you from Ateneo? de la salle? UST? All Spanish established schools for insulares, peninsulares, and mestizos,” he wrote on his facebook post.

A group of history advocates meanwhile quickly corrected Padilla giving factual truth about the University.

The group set the record straight the DLSU was founded in 1911 by the American from the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.

“Ang De La Salle University (DLSU-Manila) ay itinatag noong June 16, 1911 noong panahon ng mga Amerikano,” it stated in a Facebook post, also yesterday.”

Netizens also slammed Padilla for yet another blunder.

Several Netizens have blasted Padilla over his claim about DLSU with most of them pointing out that no less than his wife Mariel Padilla was a graduate of the university where he could easily check the facts.
