Jessy Mendiola revealed that she used to turn down hosting gigs in the past, not until Luis Manzano helped her during an interview with Bandera on Sunday, December 5.
The Kapamilya actress shared that she was hindered by her insecurities before. But thanks to her husband Manzano, an award-winning TV host, she was able to overcome them. Manzano had hosted different TV shows for many years. He is one of the longest-serving VJ on the Myx channel with Iya Villania.
Mendiola shared, “Sinasabi sa akin ni Luis na, ‘You have to read your script over and over again because what if nawala yung co-host mo di ba? You have to know kung saan mo siya sasaluhin.’
“Kaya nakikilig ako pag kinukuha ako ng mga brands for hosting gigs. ‘Oh my gosh host na ako!’ Kasi dati I used to be so intimidated. As in talagang nagno-no ako pagka may nag-i-inquire about hosting.
“Kasi ang dami ko ng mga bloopers sa TV sa mga questions before or interviews. Yung mga wrong grammar or wrong pronunciation. But that’s okay. It’s part of it. Wala namang perfect, eh.
“Kahit yung mga pinaka-perfect mag-English nagkakamali pa rin. Sa experience ko ganun. Sana tayong lahat magtulungan na lang tayo.
“If you want to correct someone, correct them respectfully di ba? Parang it all part of growing so sana huwag naman natin i-crucify yung isang tao dahil lang mali yung sinabi niya.”
Mendiola currently has no contract with any TV networks. The actress said she is still prioritizing her health thus she is taking a break from accepting projects from time to time.
Mendiola said, “I am currently with no network. I’m a freelancer right now. Yun nga I’m still enjoying my time na nagba-vlog, pa-easy easy lang.
“I value my health more than anything and aminin naman natin in our industry, aminin natin lahat tayo laging pagod and hindi naman din maiiwasan talaga kasi blessings yun, eh.
“But for me, mas gugustuhin ko na nakakapahinga ako. Even yung emotions ko naaapektuhan pag puyat ako. So hindi din siya healthy for me. Siguro paisa isa lang.”
She also revealed that she and Manzanao almost closed down their joint scent business due to the pandemic.
“Alam n’yo bang we almost closed down last year nu’ng nag-start yung pandemic. Kasi di ba may kiosks kami sa malls tapos parang nag-usap kami na feeling ko it’s not going to do well so we were planning to close it down, the whole business,” she narrated.
Thankfully, the couple’s business bounced back better after trying online selling.
She said, “But then we started selling online tapos sinabi namin na through our business let’s help other people? So finally dumami na yung mga nag-i-inquire, dumami na yung may gusto ng negosyo and lumaki lang siya ng lumaki.
“Hindi namin namalayan na dumadami na pala yung mga distributors and resellers. Steady na siya. And it’s nice di ba, na ang daming natutulungan. Na hindi ka na mag-iisip ng negosyo, may negosyo ka na,” pahayag pa ni Jessy.
“Si Luis ang nagturo sa akin mag-start ng business. But I’m really glad na naturuan din ako ng family ko mag-ipon ng mabuti.
“So when I started resting from tapings and stuff, ang dami kong naipon. So ang dami ko ring sisimulan na businesses and I’m just really grateful talaga. As in iba talaga si Lord pag bumalik yung faith mo sa Kanya. Iba mag-bless si Lord.”
