The expensive wedding episode of the Coco Martin and Julia Montes-starred pulled away in the competition, registering one of the show’s highest AGB Nielsen Mega Manila ratings.

Having achieved a phenomenal status during its airing, the 2012 ABS-CBN series, Walang Hanggan, remains vividly instilled in fans’ memories, even after nearly a decade.

The series first aired on the Kapamilya network’s prime time block on January 16, 2012. Marking the first pairing of Martin and Montes, Walang Hanggan went on to become a surprising sensation and one of the most successful TV series produced by ABS-CBN.

Martin then, just came from the massively successful, Minsan Lang kita Iibigin (2011), while she was fresh from the success of Mara Clara (2010).

In Walang Hanggan, Coco Martin and Julia Montes, played Daniel Guidotti and Katarina Alcantara, respectively. The series is loosely based upon the Dawn Zulueta and Richard Gomez-starred romantice drama, Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit (1991) and the Emily Bronte novel, Wuthering Heights (1847).

Throughout its run, Walang Hanggan was a constant top-rater. According to Kantar Media, the show’s national TV ratings are recorded at 32.1% and 45.4% for its pilot and finale episodes, respectively. AGB Nielsen, also noted the show’s very strong primetime presence, as reflected by its 25.1% and 31.8% pilot and finale ratings, respectively. The final episode saw its most-rated episode ever, which made the program the number one show across all time blocks and TV networks.

One of the most rated and most-talked-about episodes of the show on social media is that one episode that featured Daniel and Katarina’s grand wedding. The episode, which aired on October 12, 2012, reportedly cost more than PhP3 million, for the wedding set and preparation alone. That amount certainly didn’t go to waste, as millions of Filipinos were glued to their TV screens to watch it.

That episode posted a 28% Mega Manila rating on AGB Nielsen’s scorecard, making it the most-watched primetime series, that night.

Aside from Martin and Montes, series featured an ensemble of seasoned and up-and-coming young stars, including Dawn Zulueta, Richard Gomez, Rita Avila, Paulo Avelino, Melissa Ricks, Joem Bascon, Eula Valdez, Sharmaine Buencamino, Ogie Diaz, Arlene Mulach, John Medina, Nonie Buencamino, Josh Ivan Morales, Rochard Yap, Eda Nolan, Renzo Cruz, Meggay Cobarrubias, Olive Isidro, Lui Manansala, Dino Imperial, among many others.
