Danger stood by the doorsteps of a mother and her daughter’s home when the former welcomed a new man into their lives.

GMA Network

Acors: Maricel Laxa, Zoren Legaspi, Mikee Quintos, Lianne Valentin, Mariz Ricketts, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Dave Bornea, Coleen Paz, Celine Fajardo, Mio Maranan, Jen Rosendahl, Ramon Christopher, Patricia Ismael

Genre: Drama

Premise: A widowed woman and her daughter find a second chance in rebuilding their family, when the former re-marries another man. But danger lurks, which may make them descend to an inescapable chaos.

Running Time: 25-30 minutes

Director: Laurice Guillen

Time slot: Weekdays, 2:30 PM

Why You Should See It:

GMA Network’s new afternoon series digs into the familiar yet absorbing family drama plot, that sheds light upon second chances in life and relationship. In Apoy sa Langit’s case, however, that second chance may spell disaster, which proves that not all opportunities to move forward should be taken advantage of.

That is the tragedy of Gemma Hidalgo (Maricel Laxa), a renowned jewelry designer, who found a new love in Cesar Monastrial (Zoren Legaspi), a furniture contractor.

As a widower who has been trying to deal with the death of her husband for years, Cesar’s arrival in Gemma’s life felt very timely. It does not take a long time before Gemma inevitably fell for Cesar’s sweetness.

But such sweetness is just a beautiful facade that covers Cesar’s ugly identity. Audiences won’t have a hard time guessing that the guy isn’t up to something good, the first time he laid his eyes upon Gemma. His wicked character eventually gets exposed when a theft happened within the Hidalgo household, which cost the life of Rey (Ramon Christopher), Gemma’s husband.

Her daughter, Ning (Mikee Quintos), albeit her initial dislike of Cesar, eventually welcomed the new man into her mother’s life. Flashes of the crime she and her mom witnessed years back, however, will prevent Ning from fully accepting her mother has now settled in with a new husband. The arrival of a mysterious girl named Stella (Lianne Valentin, who turned out to be Cesar’s mistress), further complicates their already problematic affair.

Apoy Sa Langit is a heavy drama, and it has themes that can be normally seen in a traditional soap opera. Campy scenes are well-provided, courtesy of Lianne Valentin, whose provocative character in the show, may make viewers raise their brows. That said, the danger embedded in Gemma’s choice to accept Cesar in her life makes the series truly a worthy spectacle.

Apoy Sa Langit airs on GMA Afternoon Prime from Mondays to Fridays, after Eat Bulaga. Watch the official full trailer below:
