Viva’s sexy star Angeli Khang admitted on Friday, May 13, that her portrayals of dramatic characters were based on her real-life experiences.
She was a victim of domestic abuse stemming from her father, a Korean general, who exhibited violence at an early age.
“Kaya ako napo-portray ng maganda yung mga movies ko like Mahjong, Silip sa Apoy, lahat ng mga drama, dahil, actually my dad, noong pinanganak siya, taga North Korea yung family niya.
“Pumunta sila ng South Korea yung parents ng dad ko and growing up daw yung dad ko lang yung may ugali na kapag may nakikita na same na laruan sinasapak ny ayung kaibigan nya kasi ayaw nya ng may kapareho,” shared Khang during her first-ever physical press conference.
Apparently, her father was a perfectionist, wanting nothing but only good things for his children.
“Nung pumunta ako sa US since mga 60 years old na siya or matanda na, he told me one time noong lasing na lasing s’ya, before s’ya kunin before sya mamatay, ‘I want to see you successful and I want to see you na magiging kampante ako sa future mo.'”
Khang said that her father hated to see her fail, which would sometimes result in physical altercations.
“Every time na nakikita niya ako [na] may palya, may times na sinasaktan niya ako. Kaya sa U.S. bawal manakit, kahit kaunting sampal, kaunting kurot, bawal talaga makukulong ‘yong parents.”
The sexy actress, despite experiencing violence in her own home, understood her father.
“Pero naiintindhan ko naman yung reason ng dad ko,” she stated. “But right now naiisip ko na he can tell me in the right way di nya ko kailangan pagtaasan ng kamay dahil babae pa din ako and no one deserves to be abuse.”
In the meantime, Khang has another upcoming movie titled Pusoy. It is directed by international filmmaker Philip Giordano and stars internationally-acclaimed actor Vince Rillon.
The film will be available for streaming on Vivamax starting May 27.
