Historical collaboration between ABS-CBN and GMA Network, to rock Philippine television soon

In what was previously thought to be an impossible collaboration, the two media giants finally team up.

Richard Yap, a Kapuso actor, and Jodi Sta. Maria, a Kapamilya actress. Both are back in a project together, this time in a collaborative production between former rival networks, ABS-CBN and GMA.

The two actors first collaborated on the phenomenal daytime series Be Careful with My Heart (2012) on ABS-CBN. They worked on several projects together after that, including their most recent TV show, Sana Dalawa Ang Puso, in 2018. In January 2021, Yap moved to GMA Network.

The said collaborative project, titled ‘Unbreak My Heart,’ practically marks the beginning of a new era, with the former rival media giants working hand in hand, for the first time, to offer quality content to Filipino viewers. ABS-CBN lost its franchise in 2020, allowing GMA Network to monopolize free television. Since then, the Kapamilya Network has worked tirelessly to expand its reach on both traditional television and more modern non-linear platforms.

This development will no doubt rock the local entertainment. If the reports are correct, ABS-CBN’s drama unit, Dreamscape Entertainment will be producing the TV series, while GMA Network will air it on its main channel. There are no words yet as to whether ABS-CBN will also air the series, on its different platforms. If that is the case, then this collaboration will definitely usher in a new era of Philippine television.

Joshua Garcia will also appear in the series as a lead. It was reported previously that he would work with Kapuso actress Gabbi Garcia on an unnamed project, but that has not yet been confirmed.

Although neither camp has issued a formal statement, photos from the contract signing between the two networks have already circulated on social media since November 11. ABS-CBN Chief Operations Officer Cory Vidanes and GMA Network Senior Vice President Anette Gozon-Valdez were in attendance.

Several Kapuso and Kapamilya stars are reportedly joining the show’s ensemble cast, but even that is undisclosed.
