Sharon Cuneta once played the role of Darna in a very short period of time.
Now that ABS-CBN is looking for Angel Locsin’s replacement as Darna, the Mega Star has an advice for the next actress who will swallow the legendary stone.
“It’s a responsibility,”she said in an interview with the reporters on March 24.
”Panindigan mo si Darna. Mahiya ka naman kay Darna.”
She then recalled her experience as Darna in 1986 in Edu Manzano’s “Captain Barbell”. The 5–year-old described the experience as physically taxing.
She shared, “Lahat ng body pains naramdaman ko. Sabi ko nga, ‘Pwede bang mag-drama na lang ako? Kahit limang balde iyong iiyak ko.’”
It can alse be remembered that the last actress who donned the red-and-gold costume was the Kapuso star Marian Rivera.
Now that ABS-CBN has bought the rights of “Darna”, Kapamilya fans are excited to see their favorite star to fly as the iconic superheroine. These actresses, who are worthy to play Darna according to Sharon, are Liza Soberano, Pia Wurtzbach, Julia Montes and Maja Salvador.
“Someone more physically fit is more bagay to this,” she said.
Sharon also commended Angel’s portrayal as Darna and said, “Angel did a wonderful job.”
“She was so beautiful and perfect as Darna kasi magaling s’yang kumilos. Alam mo ‘yung tough pero feminine? Tapos she’s curvy and beautiful,” she explained further.
However, Sharon stressed that the mantle of the character has always been passed down to a youner generation of actresses.
“Darna is something na sadyang pinamamana,” she emphasized.
“But Darna is really meant to be passed on to another of the new generation. It’s been like that. It’s a Filipino thing na pinamamana talaga. Hangga’t wala na kami dito, magkakaroon at magkakaroon pa rin ng Darna.”
Since the 1950s, more than 20 actresses have played Darna in both films and television series.
In the end, Sharon said she’s “happy for the next Darna.”
