InLife partners with ACEN for renewable energy supply

InLife has entered into a renewable energy supply agreement with ACEN, the energy platform of the Ayala Group.

The agreement covers two of InLife’s landmark buildings: the Insular Life Corporate Centre (ILCC) in Alabang and the Insular Life Makati (ILM) Building, reinforcing the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitment.

The transition to renewable energy at ILCC took effect March 2025 and will start this June 2025 at ILM. These efforts are part of InLife’s broader ESG strategy to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable operations across its properties.

At ILCC, renewable energy is being sourced through the Retail Electricity Supply (RES) market under the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) framework. This allows large electricity consumers to choose their providers and tap into renewable sources. ILCC will operate on 100% renewable energy during daytime hours, while nighttime supply will be a mix of energy sources. This shift is expected to reduce the building’s carbon emissions by an estimated 1,746 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to taking 6.9 million kilometers of vehicle travel off the road or the carbon absorption of about 26,195 trees over 25 to 35 years.

ILM, meanwhile, will utilize renewable power exclusively through the Green Energy Option Program (GEOP), in accordance with the Renewable Energy Act of 2008. By participating in GEOP, ILM is expected to cut carbon emissions by 2,154 tons of CO₂ annually, equivalent to eliminating 8.6 million kilometers of vehicle travel or planting 32,311 trees.

“InLife’s transition to renewable energy and adherence to globally recognized standards in environmentally safe infrastructure, are efforts to lead by example and drive meaningful change towards a sustainable future,” said InLife Executive Vice President and Chief Property and Investment Officer Hector A. Caunan.

InLife has also secured leading sustainability certifications for its properties:

ILM holds a LEED Gold Certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) which it gained in 2018 after its major renovation. This certification indicates that it has achieved a high level of sustainability and a strong commitment to sustainable building practices. It is also one of the considerations for the WELL Health-Safety Rating awarded by the International WELL Building Institute in April 2024. This dual certification ensures not only reduced environmental impact but also the health and well-being of building occupants through improved air and water quality, emergency preparedness, and stakeholder engagement.

ILCC earned the EDGE Certification (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) from the Philippine Green Building Initiative in April 2025. The certification recognizes the achievement of a minimum 20% reduction in energy use, water use, and embodied carbon in materials, benchmarked against standard local buildings.

Meanwhile, Insular Life Cebu Business Centre (ILCBC) has been receiving annually an International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), a globally recognized tool that validates the electricity it consumes is sourced from certified renewable energy providers. Since 2024, it has transitioned to a more energy efficient air conditioning system to improve its energy performance and occupant comfort.

InLife is also installing solar panels in its other provincial buildings as part of its efforts to reduce electricity consumption and shift to more sustainable energy sources.

Through these initiatives, InLife continues to strengthen its ESG foundation, demonstrating that economic growth and environmental stewardship go hand in hand. To know more about InLife’s ESG efforts, visit https://bit.ly/3SUOln6.
