Regine Velasquez vents frustration over corruption: ‘Kung hindi ninanakaw pera natin, kaya ‘to eh!’

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez joined the growing number of celebrities expressing outrage over government corruption amid renewed public anger surrounding the multibillion-peso flood control anomalies.

In a series of posts on X and Instagram, the singer shared her frustration with the country’s persistent corruption and the lack of accountability for officials involved.

“Kung hindi ninanakaw pera natin KAYA ‘to eh!!!!!” Regine wrote, reacting to a viral TikTok video depicting a futuristic, corruption-free Philippines — one with bullet trains, world-class cities, and limitless opportunities.

She lamented how corruption continues despite repeated exposure of scandals.

“The thing is, hindi sila marunong mahiya kahit sabihan silang magnanakaw, makapal ang mukha at isinusuka na natin sila, waley pa rin. Magtuturo lang sila ng iba pang magnanakaw hanggang maubos na lang nila ‘yung ninakaw nila tapos nakaw uli,” she said.

Regine also criticized the country’s taxation system, pointing out that despite Filipinos working hard and paying one of the highest VAT rates in Southeast Asia, there seems to be little return in terms of public service. “In the meantime, we continue to pay taxes na pinagpaguran natin. Ano pa pwede nila lagyan ng tax ano pa!!!!! Baka paggising natin isang araw pati hangin may tax na!!!!!!” she exclaimed.

The Dadalhin hitmaker further aired her frustration about the lack of justice and consequences for corrupt officials, saying this is the root of the problem. “Hay, hindi ko mapigilan ang sarili ko. Nagagalit talaga ako. Alam n’yo kung bakit hindi natatapos ang kurapsyon?? Kasi walang consequences. Justice is selective,” Regine said.

She then called on corrupt officials to return the public’s stolen money to help victims of the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu last September 30. “Lahat ng ninakaw, itulong n’yo sa Cebu!!!!!” she urged.

In another post, Regine reflected on her hopes for change as she nears her late 50s. “Anong ba gagawin natin para maituwid ang baluktot na pamamalakad na ito?? At kahit iba ang ilagay natin dyan, I don’t think it will change!!! I’m 55. Konting panahon na lang ang ilalagi namin sa mundo, sana man lang maabutan namin ang isang maluwalhating pamumuhay para sa mga Pilipino,” she wrote.

While she did not confirm attending the September 21 anti-corruption rallies in Manila and Quezon City, her husband Ogie Alcasid was spotted recording protesters at the People Power Monument.

Velasquez’s remarks come as the entertainment industry increasingly joins the public outcry for transparency and justice following reports of widespread anomalies in Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control projects allegedly linked to several government officials and contractors.
