Sue Ramirez calls out Alvin Aragon over controversial remarks

Award-winning actress Sue Ramirez publicly reacted to the controversial statements made by Alvin Aragon regarding his wife Izzy Trazona and her former group, the SexBomb Girls.

In the comment section of an ABS-CBN News Instagram post covering Aragon’s interview, Ramirez wrote: “Na para bang kasalanan maging sexbomb???? Mas kasalanan kaya maging homophobic at transphobic.”

Her remark quickly gained traction online, with many netizens echoing her sentiment.

In a recent interview on DWAR Abante Radyo, Aragon explained that Trazona left the SexBomb Girls in 2009 after embracing Christianity. He stressed that her departure was rooted in personal convictions rather than romantic or financial reasons.

Aragon cited concerns about the group’s name, costumes, and choreography. He described the word “Sex” in the group’s name as “hindi pleasing” and not a good influence, particularly for children. He also criticized what he characterized as revealing outfits and “seducing” dance movements.

Beyond the issue of the group, Aragon also addressed his views on LGBTQIA+ identities, saying they contradict his interpretation of biblical teachings. He specifically referenced his stepchild, drag performer Sofia Trazona, maintaining that rejecting her transition aligned with his religious beliefs.

Aragon’s statements sparked widespread debate across social media platforms. Several public figures weighed in, including Rica Peralejo, Tart Carlos, Mikoy Morales, IC Mendoza, Joy Barcoma, and film writer Jerry Gracio.

Many criticized what they perceived as judgmental and harmful rhetoric, particularly toward the LGBTQIA+ community.

The issue remains a trending topic on social media, with divided reactions. Supporters of Aragon argue that he is merely expressing his religious convictions. Critics, however, say framing artistic expression and LGBTQ identity as morally wrong promotes stigma and discrimination.

As of posting, Aragon has not issued a new statement addressing the backlash from Ramirez and other personalities.
