After more than a decade, Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin is confirmed to reprise the role of “Darna” in a movie adaptation under Star Cinema.
ABS-CBN got the rights of 13 Mars Ravelo’s iconic characters including”Dyesebel,” “Darna,” etc. in 2011. Two years after, ABS-CBN Exec Malou Santos chose Angel to do “Darna” for supposedly 2014 MMFF. Unfortunately, the movie did not push through and last year, Angel announced that she can no longer do the movie due to bulging disc injury that prohibits her to do strenuous activities, a major requirement in doing “Darna.”
Just recently, she claimed to have received positive feedback from her doctors and therapist, whom she still visits three times a week. And now, Aster Amoyo on her columay Pilipino Star Ngayon, confirmed Angel to reprise the role of “Darna” in a movie slated for next year. The confirmation actually came from Star Cinema’s big boss Malou Santos during the Professional Artist Managers, Inc. (PAMI) get-together hosted by ABS-CBN President-CEO Carlo Katigbak.
“Darna’s” powers include flight, super strength, super speed and near-invulnerability. Aside from the clamor of Kapamilya fans, even for Kapamilya stars Anne Curtis and Maja Salvador, Angel is their only choice for the role.
Angel Locsin first played this iconic superheroine when she was on GMA Network way back 2005. And then for 2017, another “Darna” in the movies.
