ABS-CBN veteran broadcast journalist Lynda Jumilla was named the recipient of the prestigious Marshall McLuhan fellowship for 2012 at the Jaime V. Ongpin Journalism Seminar sponsored by the Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility (CMFR) last week

Jumilla, who anchors the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC)’s “ANC Presents: Road to 2013,” is the first television journalist to receive the award since the fellowship was established in 1997 by the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines.

The fellowship recognized Jumilla’s “mastery of the craft in both print and broadcast” and her commitment to factual details, accuracy, and developing in-depth understanding of issues. “Being multimedia and multiplatform, ABS-CBN lets a journalist maximize his or her potential,” Jumilla said.

Being this year’s recipient of the fellowship, Jumilla will attend a “ten-day familiarization and lecture tour of Canadian media and academic institutions, and later, a lecture tour of selected Philippine universities under the auspices of the Embassy of Canada in the Philippines.
