One of the best, smartest, most brilliant senators the Philippines ever had, former senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has passed away after a long bout with lung cancer. She was 71. Santiago’s passing came just weeks after she was brought to the hospital after suffering complications.
She announced in June 2014 that she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Santiago was born on June 15, 1945 in Iloilo City.
