ABS-CBN’s Film Restoration Group is once again part of Cine Lokal this August with the special exhibition of the digitally restored and remastered classic films “T-Bird at Ako” and “Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising” on select SM Cinemas.
Danny Zialcita’s “T-Bird at Ako,” starring Superstar Nora Aunor and Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos, is among the first Filipino cinematic pieces to tackle then sensitive issues such as gender and sexuality. The story revolves around a lesbian lawyer Sylvia (Nora), who tries to help a bar girl named Isabel (Vilma) in her rape case. However, in the process, Sylvia falls in love with her client.
Meanwhile, “Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising,” starring Hilda Koronel and Christopher de Leon, is a film about a college student named Joey (Christopher), who falls in love with his married teacher, Anna (Hilda). In their pursuit of togetherness, they try to run away and escape from the realities of their own lives.
Cine Lokal is a joint project by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and SM Cinemas, where eight theaters are dedicated to screen films selected by FDCP that include award-winning Filipino movies, independent films, and classic films.
Don’t miss the digitally restored and remastered “T-Bird at Ako” from Friday (July 28) to Thursday (August 3), and “Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising” from Friday (August 4) to Thursday (August 10). For the full schedule, visit www.facebook.com/filmrestorationabscbn on Facebook.
Since 2011, ABS-CBN Film Restoration Project has been restoring classic films to help preserve Philippine cinematic history. Together with Central Digital Lab, it has become the first restoration effort to be done within the country.
The advocacy campaign already earned recognitions from the International Gold Quill Awards, Philippine Quill Awards, and Anvil Awards not just for its cause to save classic movies, but for its effort to bring it to a wider and younger generation of audience through local screenings, free-to-air and cable television, pay-per-view and video-on-demand, DVDs, and even via iTunes.
