Mark Duane Angos, Star Creatives head writer and Suzette Doctolero, GMA Network head writer, got into a heated Twitter argument last November 29, Friday. The argument circulated around the similarities of “Bagani” and “Encantadia.” Then, he called her a ‘nuisance’ to which she agreed.
In both shows, each of the characters symbolizes basic elements: Earth, Air, Water and Fire. Although, Bagani writers created a character based on another element: Wood.
Suzette tweeted that Sofia Andres’ outfit looked like a circus costume. Although she confirmed that she just made a joke, Mark reacted badly to her insulting tweet. Then countered:
“I think you should get out of this ‘originality discourse’ especially if you’re the one who copied CW’s Arrow. My friendly advice, focus on stories you’re writing. I’m sure there’s a lot of B-actors from Game of Thrones who can cameo on your next show.”
The CW’s Arrow is about Oliver Queen who uses his vigilante secret persona to right societal wrongs and transforms their city to its former glory. His weapon of choice is a bow and an arrow. Alyas Robin Hood, however, is about Jose Paulo “Pepe” de Jesus who was arrested after he was framed for his father’s murder. He went vigilante as he looks for his father’s murderer and along the way, right the wrongs of his own community.
She countered with: “Ay arrow talaga? Bobo hahahhahaha”
In a separate tweet, he called her a nuisance. Then said, “She’s a nuisance in our small community of writers, tolerated in the spirit of ‘paggalang sa nakakatanda.’ Friends from GMA also believe in a diverse & dynamic TV landscape- supporting & learning from each other. Network war is an illusion propagated by those stuck in the past.”
Although, Suzette didn’t directly reply to Mark’s tweet, she wrote a separate tweet:
“Tama siya. In our small community of writers, ako nga yung nuisances, yes. im the crazy one, a nutcase. I do not conform. My soaps, at least some of it, can attest to that. Baliw din gaya ko. Ako nga lang nakakaintindi sa iba kong gawa. Hahaha”
