Karla Estrada became an inspiration to plus-sized women when she posted photos of herself in swimsuits. The said series of photos consists of her wearing different designs of one-piece swimwear.
In the Magandang Buhay recent episode, Karla explained the reason why she had the prowess and guts to post her photos on Instagram. She slammed the understanding that big girls couldn’t wear a swimwear and swim in the ocean. She stated that the Lord gave us the ocean for us to enjoy.
“Parang karamihan kasi sa atin dito sa Pilipinas ay hindi bukas ang ating pang-unawa na kahit mataba ka, eh, puwede kang mag-bathing suit. Medyo meron tayong ganun na parang napupulaan tayo. Tapos tayo, nasanay tayong matataba na talagang hindi na tayo makapag-swimming sa dagat. Nilagay po ng Diyos ang karagatan na ‘yan para sa ating lahat ay ma-enjoy natin.”
Karla continued that big girls like her shouldn’t feel shy and she also added that people buy food to eat it.
“So, huwag tayong mahihiya dahil hindi naman talaga sila ang bumili ng pagkain kaya tayo lumaki nang ganito.”
Karla also shared that she wanted to give inspiration to fellow Filipinos. Women should wear what they wanted to wear. She also continued that women should also wear according to where they are.
“Ako naman, gusto ko lang makatulong, magbigay ng inspirasyon sa mga kapwa natin Pilipinang medyo may kalakihan na, ‘Hello! May mga bathing suit na kakasya sa inyo. Magsuot kayo.’ Kasi ang point ng pagsusuot ng bathing suit kapag ikaw ay nasa dagat ay para pumantay ang kulay mo at ma-enjoy mo ang pagsu-swimming. Sa mga kababayan natin, lalo na yung mga kababaihan, mga Pilipinang kababaihan, na huwag na kayong mahihiya. Magsuot kayo ng gusto niyo as long as kaya niyong dalhin at confident ka sa kasuotan mo at, siyempre, magsusuot ka ng naaayon lang kung nasaan ka.”
