G Tongi expressed her disgust in a lengthy post on Instagram. She wrote that she’s a Filipino-American (Fil-Am) and shared that most of those she met from around the globe, the Philippines and the image of Filipinos are tainted with an image of a ‘plunderer’ due to former First Lady Imelda Marcos or that of the boxer-turned-biblical fanatic Manny Pacquiao.

In the said Instagram post, G Tongi attached a breaking news headline: “The Sandiganbayan 5th division found former first lady Imelda Marcos guilty of 7 counts of graft and sentenced her to 6 to 11 years in prison in connection with her case that ran for 27 years.”
In her caption, the actress noted how the Philippines’ reputation doesn’t do well because of Marcos’ plundering and Pacquiao being a bible fanatic.
“As a Filipina American, most people I meet around the world almost always mention that all they know of the Philippines is about this woman with the shoes or that boxer turned biblical fanatic.
“It’s not a good reputation for the Filipino people when the world knows of your country by the woman who plundered away the wealth of the Filipino people on shoes… this PROVES THERE IS JUSTICE after all.

Backlash and response.
One Netizen thought that ‘boxer-turned-biblical-fanatic’ is rather rude.
“It’s a bit rude of you to say ‘THAT BOXER TURNED BIBLICAL FANATIC’ when he gave karangalan sa Pilipinas. I have co-workers that only knew Philippines exists because of Manny Pacquiao so don’t be belittle him. #respect.”
G Tongi replied, pointing out Pacquiao’s homophobic qualities.

When another Netizen slammed G Tongi, the actress said:
“get the F off my wall!!! I’d rather be compassionate for my fellow human being then be bible thumper.”
When Netizens asked what’s wrong with being a ‘boxer-turned-biblical fanatic’, G Tongi answered:
“meaning the world only recognizes the Filipino people because of Imelda and Manny”
There was another Netizen who seemed to have sided Marcos, “I really admire you. And I’m not a fan of the former first lady. But, You just remembered the bad things about her, paano naman ‘yung mga magagandang ginawa niya at ng former Pres. Marcos?
“Na-count mo ba? if you really open your mind and eyes, read beyond history, malalaman mo how great ang Philippines noon. And you choose to post this one.
“May mga narinig ka siguro before na magaganda about Marcos era, pero dahil sarado ang isip mo, (at judging this post hindi mo naman sila gusto) hindi mo naipost yun.”
G Tongi responded, remembering the deaths and tortures which happened during the Marcos era.
“crimes against humanity of the Filipino people outweigh the good the Marcoses contributed to only a few of the wealthy…”
