Maricar De Mesa remains loyal to GMA Network

  • Maricar De Mesa shared that she loves working with the team of the GMA afternoon series ‘Dragon Lady’
  • She detailed what her role will be in the said series
  • Maricar also reminisced on how her television career started with GMA Network 20 years ago
  • She’s grateful to GMA Network and remains loyal to it despite several appearances on its rival network, ABS-CBN

Maricar De Mesa started her television career back in 1995, when she became part of the longest running gag show, ‘Bubble Gang.’ She was also part of ‘GoBingo’ with co-host Arnel Ignacio back in 1996. She initially started her career in GMA Network before accepting projects on rival network, ABS-CBN.

Her remarkable role as kontrabida was in the GMA Network evening drama series, ‘Sana Ay Ikaw Na Nga,’ where she played 3 roles (Olga Villavicer, Vanessa Del Rio, and Samantha Aguirre). The series starred Tanya Garcia and Dingdong Dantes. The said drama series lasted from 2001 to 2003.

In an interview with during ‘Dragon Lady’ presscon, she said, “Home ko naman ito. Dito naman talaga yung puso ko. So, kung nagkakaroon man ako ng guesting na per project sa kabila, it’s just for that, pero lagi pa rin akong bumabalik-balik dito.”

And she stressed that GMA Network is her home network, “Grateful ako sa kanila. Imagine, bata pa ako, dito ako nagsimula sa GMA. More than 20 years.”

It was recalled that Maricar appeared on the March 2 episode of the ABS-CBN drama anthology ‘Ipaglaban Mo,’ a few days before the premiere of GMA Network’s Afternoon Prime series ‘Dragon Lady.’ Despite being a freelance artist, most of her shows are still with the GMA Network.

Maricar plays the role of Vera Lim in the afternoon series ‘Dragon Lady.’ She’s the main antagonist to Celestina (Janine Gutierrez) and Almira (Dianna Subiri).

“(Ako ang) magpapahirap sa buhay ng mag inang Diana at Janine. Alam mo, ang isang masayang part diyan, kapag gusto mo yung mga katrabaho mo. Parang magaan, you look forward going to the set. Let’s admit it, meron kang trabaho na ganyan yung pakiramdam na, ‘Ay, may taping na naman. Pero ito, I look forward to it. Kami ni Diana, first time namin magkatrabaho. Magkakilala kami pero never pa kami nagkatrabaho, pero first day pa lang namin sa set, nag-click kami, nag-room share nga kami agad,” said Maricar, as she shared how she feels about working with the team of Dragon Lady.

The Afternoon Prime series ‘Dragon Lady’ aired on March 4, after ‘Eat Bulaga!’ With the special participation of Bea Binene (young Almira), Derrick Monasterio (young Charles Chua) and Krsitoffer Martin (young Brian), it stars ‘Dragon Lady’ herself Janine Gutierrez, with Tom Rodriguez and EA Guzman.
