- “Wow!” is how Sam described Nadine’s dance moves in the movie
Nadine Lustre and Sam Concepcion are teaming up for the first time in the upcoming movie Indak produced by Viva Films. Directed by Paul Basinillo, the dance musical film will tackle about passion, love, family, and dance.
The movie also stars Julian Trono, Ella Cruz, and G-Force. Viva Entertainment dropped its first teaser last May 20 via its official YouTube channel.
The movie is billed as the biggest dance musical film this year, with its high production values, huge cast, and overseas location.
The movie features the story of a Cebuana island girl named Jen (Nadine’s character). She meets Vin (played by Sam) who invites her to join their group, Indak Pinas, to compete in a world dance competition in South Korea. Jen has to battle her insecurities and stage fright to prepare for the performance of her life.
During an interview at the pocket presscon for the movie last July 11, Sam dished out some exciting details about his and Nadine’s characters in the film.
“Si Vin my character is a dance captain of the team. He’s from Manila. He’s a leader. He’s ambitious. He has a lot of dreams and goals and people look up to him as a leader.
“Yung role ni Nadine, si Jen, is from the Islands and she lives by the beach. Namamangka siya and she loves to dance. So because of fate nahanap ko siya and I recruit her to be part of the dance team. So I pulled her out of her comfort zone kung saan peaceful ang buhay niya and I bring her to this crazy chaotic world of dance and the city,” Sam shared.

“It’s a dance movie but ‘andun pa rin yung Filipino element ng movie. It’s a movie with heart kaya I guess that’s what it’s about,” he added.
The movie will be the first-ever Philippine dance musical film. Given this, is the Filipino audience ready for this kind of film?
“The audience will watch naman kung ano yung maganda. I can’t really say when an audience will be ready or not, but I hope they are and I know they’ll do enjoy it. It’s a movie for everyone,” Sam responded.
Sam has already starred in several films including Para Sa Broken Hearted (2018), Etiquette for Mistresses (2015), Shake, Rattle & Roll 13 (2011), and Way Back Home (2011). He assured fans that this movie will be different from his past projects.
“Siyempre iba din ‘to kasi maraming sayawan. Maraming iba’t ibang elements na kasama sa movie aside from the acting and the storytelling.
“The storytelling is still the most important pero siyempre may dancing involved, there’s music involved.
“I’ve done musicals in the past. ‘Yung mga ganung films mahirap siyang i-put together although this is different, it’s heavier on dance than pure musical movie. Mahirap din cause it’s all dancing. It’s a lot of work.”

How did Sam find working with the Multi-media Princess, Nadine?
“It’s great. I really enjoyed it. I love working with friends that I know. Parang napapagaan yung trabaho. Ngayon lang kami nagkatrabaho ng ganito in a film. Dami naming sayaw na ginawa.”
Indak will mark Nadine’s second movie without her on-screen and real-life partner James Reid after her recent film Ulan with Carlo Aquino. Sam was also asked about James and mentioned that the Multimedia Prince is very supportive of him and Nadine.
“Of course he’s very supportive. I love that I get to work with Nadz and you know, it’s a great experience. And sabi ko nga, after this, I’d work with James after para iba rin. But yeah, it’s a pretty good, pretty whole experience to work with Nadine. I can’t wait for him to watch it.”
“Wow!”That was Sam’s reaction when he was asked to describe the dance moves of Nadine in just one word.
How sexy was Nadine in the movie? “Wowowow!” he exclaimed.
The movie will hit the Philippine cinemas on August 7, 2019. Included in its official soundtrack are “Sumayaw sa Indak” by Nadine, Pio Balbuena and Shehyee, “Hindi Tayo Pwede” by Janine Teñoso and the “Ikot-Ikot” rendition of Sam originally performed by Sarah Geronimo.
Sam also revealed that he will be part of the cast of the upcoming suspense thriller The Killer Bride alongside with Joshua Garcia, Janella Salvador, and Maja Salvador.
His last teleserye was You’re My Home with Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Jessy Mendiola, JC de Vera, and Paul Salas.
Sam emerged as the winner for the Big Division of Little Big Star’s Season 1 in April 2006. Since then, he participated in various plays. He was the first Filipino artist to have collaborated with Dreamworks by singing the theme song of the animated movie Kung Fu Panda.
He was awarded by the United Nations Youth Association of the Philippines the prestigious UNAP ‘Outstanding Youth Leader Award’ given in Malacañang Palace in 2009.
Nadine, on the other hand, bagged several awards this year including her first Gawad Urian Best Actress trophy for the movie Never Not Love You. She also won the FAMAS Best Actress award and was chosen by the Young Critics Circle as the Best Performer.
