Sen. Bong Go to appeal to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to renew ABS-CBN franchise for 11,000 employees?

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go claimed he would appeal to President Rodrigo Duterte to renew ABS-CBN’s franchise for the sake of the 11,000 employees who might lose their jobs and source of support for their families.

Go said he also would like to suggest Duterte file a case against ABS-CBN rather than to implement delaying tactics just because of his sentiments for the giant network.

“I will appeal to him for a simple reason na ayaw ko may mawalan ng trabaho. Bahala na siya. It’s his decision.”

Just this Monday, the ABS-CBN Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Carlo L. Katigbak sincerely apologized to Duterte, if they have offended the President.

“The non-airing of ads already paid for, and the subsequent airing of ads for the purpose of maligning a person, display an intent to oppose a particular candidate. ABS-CBN did not intend to offend the President.

“We were sorry if we offended the President. That was not the intention of the network. We felt that we were just abiding by the laws and regulations that surround the airing of political ads.”

In addition to that, Go reiterated that he cannot speak on behalf of President Duterte but for him, he would accept the apology of ABS-CBN President and Chief Executive Officer Carlo L. Katigbak.

“Ako hindi ako nagtatanim ng galit. Tao din tayo, nagkakamali din tayo, but for the president, I cannot answer. It’s up to the President if he will accept.”

Last week, Sen. Go also urged the House of Representatives to act on ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal bills for he believes the longer it stays on the Senate’s que, the more tension it brings to the media and the politicians.

Go said: “Lalo natin pinapatagal, mas lalong umiinit ‘yung issue. Pagusapan niyo na, eto naman ‘yung proseso, usapan niyo then papadala dito sa Senado, then the President will decide. Hayaan natin siyang mag-desisyon kung approve or to exercise his power.”

"Kapag lalo nating pinapatagal, mas lalong umiinit ang isyu."
