This Saturday (August 15), Magpakailanman pays homage to all Filipino families and frontliners all over the world with a very special brand new episode about an entire family infected with COVID-19 in “Walang Iwanan: The Layug Family Story”.

Rainier and Remy Layug live a happy life together abroad. They have four accomplished daughters working as nurses in New Jersey, California, and New York. Unfortunately, they come face-to-face with the unseen enemy when each one of them tests positive for COVID-19.

How will they fight against this dangerous disease?

Talented actors and real-life couple Nonie and Shamaine Buencamino as Rainier and Remy, together with Rita Daniela as Lea, the couple’s youngest daughter, headline the emotional and inspiring episode.

When asked what he felt the first time he read the story of the Layug family, Nonie shared that he was in awe of their resilience and bravery, “Nakaramdam ako ng pagmamahal para sa pamilyang ito na puro frontliners. Lahat sila isinugal ang buhay nila para sa kanilang kapwa at para sa kapakanan ng mga pasyente nila, pinipigilan nilang maging emosyonal sa harap ng iba pero tao pa rin sila, natatakot at nagkakasakit. Pero lumaban sila. Hindi sila nagkawatak-watak. Sinuportahan nila ang isa’t isa, at isinantabi ang pride.”

For Shamaine, the episode brings hope to everyone inflicted by the virus while honoring frontliners, especially those in the medical field. “Itong kuwento ng mga Layug ay pagbibigay pag-asa sa mga nagkakasakit ng COVID-19 na posibleng gumaling mula sa sakit na ito. Pagbibigay-pugay rin ito sa ating mga kababayan sa buong mundo na nasa medical field,” she shared.

On the other hand, Rita said that she was inspired by the character that she portrayed, “Sa kabila ng pagiging positive rin niya sa COVID-19 at ng buong pamilya niya, naipakita niya kung paano siya naging huwarang anak para maalagaan ang mga magulang at mga kapatid niya. Isa po itong makabuluhan, totoo, at inspiring na kuwento.”

The episode is helmed by esteemed director Zig Dulay; written by John Roque; and from the extensive research of Rodney Junio.

Don’t miss Magpakailanman’s all-new episode “Walang Iwanan: The Layug Family Story” this Saturday (August 15), 8:00 p.m., after Pepito Manaloto on GMA-7.
