Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin finally shared her opinion regarding the indefinite postponement of the upcoming Darna movie starring Jane de Leon. The movie was postponed by ABS-CBN due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Locsin, someone who also portrayed the role of Darna, expressed her thoughts on the movie’s postponement through a virtual interview by G3 San Diego for #LiveWithG3.
She said that she was saddened by the news because she was hoping that the movie can inspire and spark hope to the people, especially during this pandemic.
“Nanghihinayang ako. Sayang kasi ‘yung panahon ngayon, panahon na kailangan natin ng hero. Maganda sana especially sa mga kabataan na meron tayong someone na tinitingala natin, na merong makakapagligtas sa atin sa lahat ng mga pinagdadaanan natin. Sayang ‘yung pagkakataon,” she said.
Even though the 35-year-old actress felt sad that one of the opportunities to inspire the Filipino people was postponed, she said that the decision was acceptable since the safety of the people will always come first.
“Tama naman ‘yung decision for safety ng lahat. May pandemya so kailangan natin sumunod sa protocol,” she said.
Since the coronavirus is still widespread across the country, risks of infection are still high. That’s why it will be safer for the people to just continue to stay at their homes and observe proper quarantine protocols.
Locsin also mentioned that people don’t need to worry because the legacy of Darna will always be known. She said that the Filipino people will always remember the iconic hero in their hearts.
“Nandiyan na noon pa man. Hindi siya nawawala. Sabi nga nila, ang bato ni Darna, patuloy na nagniningning iyan at pupunta iyan sa taong karapatdapat. Huwag po kayong mag-alala, babalik si Darna,” she explained.
The said Darna movie was set to star Jane de Leon. She got the role on July 17, 2019, after both Angel Locsin and Liza Soberano were respectively cast for the title role but both had to leave due to injuries they had acquired.
Meanwhile, in a press statement released on Friday, August 21, ABS-CBN said that the decision to postpone the movie came after “careful deliberation on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on movie production and cinemas.”
But the Kapamilya network assured that the rights of Darna remain with them.
The network added that the movie can’t push through since the scenes require the actors to have physical contact with each other for the fighting scenes. They said that they had to obey the quarantine protocols which makes it hard for them to give justice to the character of the superheroine, Darna.
“We are committed to following production guidelines under the ‘new normal’ and the safety of the actors and production team is a top priority. However, because the movie requires complex logistics, crowd shots, and fight scenes that involve physical contact, it will be difficult to give justice to the superhero film while strictly adhering to the guidelines,” ABS-CBN said.
“We are still in the midst of an unprecedented health crisis that makes it also difficult to assess when cinemas will recover and see audiences returning,” the network added.
On the other hand, there have been speculations that past Darna Angel Locsin and new Darna Jane de Leon are not on good terms with each other. Many believed that the two were at odds with each other since they had different reactions and ways of supporting ABS-CBN which was denied a franchise.
However, the two cleared the suspicions by showing that they have nothing against each other when Jane posted a screenshot of a video call with fellow Kapamilya stars Iza Calzado and Angel Locsin on her Instagram story.

Angel Locsin has been extremely active in expressing her support for ABS-CBN. She has been fighting for the sake of the people and her home network as well.
She is best known for her portrayal of the superheroine Darna. The actress is currently engaged to her partner, Neil Arce. They were scheduled to get married this year but have put it on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
