The past and present Darna actresses Angel Locsin and Jane De Leon appeared to be on good terms via video call amid speculations of a clash over their different ways of showing support to their home network ABS-CBN.
On Wednesday night, Jane posted a screenshot of a video call with fellow Kapamilya star Iza Calzado and Angel Locsin on her Instagram story. The post was captioned with heart emojis in the iconic logo of the ABS-CBN logo.
Many believed that the two were at odds with each other since they had different reactions and ways of supporting ABS-CBN which was denied a franchise.
Locsin is known as a philanthropist and activist who decided to take to the streets her call to restore the network on-air and save the livelihood of its employees. De Leon opted to express her solidarity with the network on social media and decided not to attend the rallies due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“Dadagdag pa ba tayo sa lumulobong bilang at patuloy na pagtaas ng COVID cases sa ating bansa?” de Leon’s post.
Locin’s statement calling on her fellow artists to protest went viral as it prompted some speculations that the latter meant for de Leon.
“No one asked you to go a rally,” Locsin said. “Obviously, you don’t need to go out to use your voice for the voiceless. But making up an excuse to save face at the expense of those who are fighting for their lives is purely disgusting.”
Though they are being compared, the two “Darna” actresses never had mentioned each other directly.
De Leon’s post showing she was on good terms with Locsin in a video call was the first time she appeared to address their supposed issue.
On Thursday, Locsin still urged her fellow celebrities to use their voice to fight for the network’s employees. She also said that participating in the rallies isn’t the only way to show support for the network.
“Iba ‘yung takot sa COVID, iba ‘yung ayaw lang talaga.” she said
Angel Locsin had been called “the real-life Darna” for fighting for the rights of the ABS-CBN employees as well as her own relief efforts during the coronavirus crisis. It has been15 years since she first portrayed the superheroine Darna in a TV series.
Meanwhile, De Leon is the latest actress to play the role of “Darna” in an upcoming movie produced by Star Cinema and directed by Jerrold Tarog.
