After 25 years, homegrown Kapuso actress Sunshine Dizon is leaving GMA Network.
Sunshine is one of those big Kapuso stars who did not get project assignments on GMA Network’s nearly 100 shows lineup for 2021.
With her non-inclusion in the GMA Network’s upcoming projects, there arise speculations saying that she is bound to leave her home network.
Dizon is a homegrown actress of GMA Network.
She entered the Philippine show business at the age of three. Her screen name then was simply “Sunshine”.
She was part of That’s Entertainment for six months. After which, VIVA signed her and cast her in DATS. In the TV series Anna Karenina, she played one of the leads as well as on the cast of Thank God It’s Sabado.
She played Sang’gre Pirena in Encantadia for which she won two Best Actress Awards from ENPRESS and Gawad Amerika.
In 2016, Dizon re-joined the retelling-sequel of Encantadia in which she played Adhara, but in the middle of the series, she left the production to be a part of the show Ika-6 na Utos where she played the role of Emma de Jesus, her most personal role. It started airing on December 5, which later got extended due to its proven strong ratings and viewership alike.
Sunshine’s shift to a new network after 25 years shocked her fellow artists.
However, just like Gutierrez, who moved to ABS-CBN earlier this year, the reason behind her shift is the non-renewal of her contract under GMA Network.
Considering the non-renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise, most celebrities stayed, though some may have left, others also moved to the Kapamilya network.
During ABS-CBN’s bid for the franchise, Dizon is one of the Kapuso celebrities back then who showed support for the network and fellow artists. That’s why, now that her contract was not renewed, there is a big chance that ABS-CBN will welcome her.
Sunshine last appeared on GMA Network’s series was via the top-rater Magkaagaw.
