Former Kapamilya comedienne-actress Marietta ‘Pokwang’ Subong shared the process of her switch to GMA Network after spending around 15 years in ABS-CBN.
Upon her transfer to GMA Network, inevitably, she knew she’d end up getting bashed.
However, she showed class by staying mum about it.
“Hindi naman maiiwasan yan. Quiet ka na lang. Alam ko sa sarili ko kung gaano kalaki ang pagtanaw ko ng utang na loob kung san ako nanggaling na Network. At hindi mawawala yun. Habang buhay kong dala-dala yun,” said Pokwang during her virtual launch as a Kapuso, on June 18.
Pokwang clarified that she messaged the executives of ABS-CBN before her transfer. And according to her, she received only support from the Kapamilya bosses.
“Nagpaalam ako nang maayos sa aking mga boss. Tinext ko sila ng personal. At naramdaman ko naman talaga yung suporta nila sa akin,” she explained.
Aside from the Kapamilya bosses, Kapamilya talents were also supportive of her decision. And for that, she was extremely grateful.
“Sobrang thankful ako kasi alam ko kasi maraming nagmamahal sa akin, maraming nakakaintindi. Sobrang nakakatuwa kasi nadagdag sila bilang inspirasyon ko… na magpatuloy sa journey ko. Kasi ramdam ko na and’yan sila na nakasuporta sakin,” Pokwang added.
As early as 2019, Pokwang has made up her mind to switch networks. Hence, the pandemic and the ABS-CBN’s shutdown did not affect her decision to transfer.
“Nagkataon lang na biglang dumating. Wala namang may gusto niyan plus nagka-pandemic pa,” she clarified.
Upon deciding to go to TV5–it had the blessings of ABS-CBN that eased up her mind.
Her former management told her that since the Network got shut down during the pandemic, there were no available jobs for most of its talents and employees.
“Bale kinausap na kami ng management na wala na talagang mabibigay na trabaho sa amin. At in all fairness naman, suportado ng ABS-CBN yung aming naging trabaho sa TV5.”
The comedienne is also grateful for GMA Network to accept her as part of their growing Kapuso talents.
Pokwang explained–she was the one who begged to be a part of the Network, not the other way around.
“Ako yung magpapasalamat kasi sila yung nag-yes sakin. Kasi ako talaga yung lumapit. Since 2019 pa. 2019 pa kami nag-uusap. And in fairness naman, binuksan nila ang kanilang mga braso sa akin.
“Kasi syempre bilang artista, marami pa akong gustong gawin, marami pa akong gustong i-share. At thankful ako kasi nabigyan nila ako ng pagkakataon na matupad yun.”
In the meantime, Pokwang will do an episode in Wish Ko Lang. She will also be part of the comedy show Pepito Manaloto.
