ABS-CBN director Andoy Ranay’s hateful “aanhin ang franchise kung basura ang trabaho” statement have gone a long way.
The statement, which is believed to be an attack against GMA Network, has elicited discussions and negative reactions from employees of the said network.
It was last week when the filmmaker resented ABS-CBN’s unfortunate shutdown. Despite this, Ranay assured his loyalty to the network.
“The reason why I stayed is because I believe that the content ABS-CBN is producing, may franchise or wala, is world-class quality.
“Aanhin mo yung franchise kung basura yung trabaho. Hanggang dulo, magkasama tayo,” he said in a media conference of iWantTFC’s My Sunset Girl.
Though he didn’t mention names, many assumed that he pointed at GMA Network when he voiced out the snide statement.
His statement didn’t sit well with Kapuso writer Suzette Doctolero. Through her Facebook account, Doctolero rebutted by ridiculing a work of the Kapamilya director which she described as a “pornoserye”.
A part of her rants said, “Natatandaan ko…After the success of My husband’s lover (ahem)…Gumawa rin siya ng LGBT themed soap. I don’t even remember the title kasi sandali lang nag-air e.
To further prove her point of view, the Kapuso writer then defined herself the meaning of world-class content hinting, that Ranay’s standard of world-class quality content is very low.
Boy meets girl eklavu.Tsk. Hindi world class yun. Magaling lang sa promo, at pinaniniwala kayo na sila ay world class pero same-same content at molde.”
Annette Gozon-Valdes, a Kapuso network executive, has agreed to the words said by Doctolero.
Gozon-Valdes commented, “You can see the character of a person with the words that come out of his mouth. Let’s just pray for him hehe.”
Kapuso director L.A. Madridejos was also one of those who came in defense of GMA Network against Ranay’s supposed hateful statement.
Madridejos reminisced how the late director Wenn V. Deramas reacted to his detractors after Kapamilya director Ranay claimed that ABS-CBN’s shows are of “world-class”.
Madridejos then related that Derama’s works were criticized but he is reminded that most of his critics are just insecure.
So ang ending, lalaitin nalang nila.
Recently, Kapuso veteran actress Jaclyn Jose expressed her views about Ranay’s statement. Disappointed by what she had learned, Jose ranted on Facebook and indirectly hit on Ranay.
The two were known as good friends, and they had worked together in GMA Network’s 2013 series, Mundo Mo’y Akin.
“I don’t fear the enemy who may attack me, I fear the fake friend who will still hug me” the actress quoted on Instagram on July 14.
(I think body of work) wala naman may ibang franchise na halata kundi [GMA] 7.
“Lahat ng nasa production from EP to AP to PA to all the members of production hanggang utility, wardrobe on point.

The followers of the actress showed their support for her after defending her network and fellow actors. Meanwhile, Ranay received disapproval from many netizens for his hate-filled statement.
Ranay previously worked with the Kapuso network in these projects: First Time (2010), One True Love (2012), Mundo Mo’y Akin (2013), Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real (2014), and More Than Words (2014).
