Olympiad boxer Nesthy Petecio will be attempting to give the Philippines another gold medal, and Filipinos are totally backing her up.
Nesthy became the first Filipina boxer who clinched an Olympic medal after defeating Yeni Marcela Arias of Colombia via a unanimous decision, advancing to the semifinals, July 28.
This also meant that she is the first Filipino boxer—male or female—to win an Olympic medal since Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco bagged a silver medal in the 1996 Atlanta Games.
Over Twitter, many are encouraging Nesthy to go for gold and join weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz who gave the Philippines its first-ever gold medal.
Analyst Edson Guido shared the good news on his Twitter account. Two more wins, and Nesthy will be the second Filipino athlete to give the Philippines a gold medal in the Olympics.
