MANILA, Philippines, July 2021 – The L’Oréal Group congratulates Hidilyn Diaz for bringing home the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medal in the women’s 55kg weightlifting event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. In celebration of pride and a testament of beauty that moves the world, the L’Oreal Group extends Php 2M worth of support for Hidilyn Diaz and the rest of the ten Filipina Olympians representing the country in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Hidilyn’s historical record-breaking performance has become a source of pride for athletes all over the country, and her unwavering spirit and confidence has won the country over. Hidilyn has mentioned in previous interviews that it feels good to feel beautiful when she competes. She’s shared in the past that being a woman shouldn’t define what female athletes can do.

Hidilyn has been known to express herself and her feminine side through her choice of lipstick color during tournaments, even mentioning in her essay “Si Malakas at Si Maganda” that she enjoys putting makeup on herself before every competition to boost confidence when facing her competition. A world champion in a sport that’s perceived to be very masculine, Hidilyn believes that the Filipina can be both strong and beautiful through having confidence, and that local female athletes have what it takes to represent themselves on a global stage as well.

Like Hidilyn, L’Oreal believes that beauty can make a positive impact on the world, and how even a simple swipe of lipstick can give confidence. To celebrate this feat, the L’Oréal Group extends a #CourageAndConfidence beauty package to Hidilyn and her team with complete skincare, haircare, and make-up that she can enjoy with confidence! The beauty package is worth PHP 600,000 of L’Oréal Paris, Maybelline, Kiehl’s, Garnier, Kérastase, and L’Oréal Professionnel products of her choice.

As a form of support to more female athletes, L’Oréal Group is also extending the #CourageAndConfidence beauty package worth PHP 1.4 million to all the female Olympians representing the Philippines in this year’s Summer Olympic games, bringing the total to PHP 2 million worth of support from L’Oréal Group for Hidilyn and the rest of the Filipina Olympians.

The Philippines have 10 female Olympians representing the country in this year’s Summer Olympics in Tokyo, namely Kristina Marie Knott for Athletics, Nesthy Petecio and Irish Magno for Boxing, Yuka Saso and Bianca Pagdanganan for Golf, Kiyomi Watanabe for Judo, Margielyn Didal for skateboarding, Remedy Rule for Swimming, and Hidilyn Diaz and Elreen Ando for Weightlifting. Some of these Filipina athletes have reached advanced rounds in their respective events, such as Margielyn Didal, Remedy Rule, and medal-winner Nesthy Petecio, and some of which have yet to compete as of this writing.

Even when these female athletes are carrying the weight of the country on their shoulders, their courage and confidence have inspired a new generation of athletes to stand up and stand out. #StandOutFilipina
