Before sing-along bars became a thing in the Philippines, Allan K first stepped on the stage and performed in an actual karaoke bar.
In an exclusive interview with RAWR Nation on October 5, Allan K revealed that he was the first to do minus one sing-alongs, imposing himself as the first-ever sing-along master.
“Kasi siguro ako talaga yung… I don’t know if it’s safe to say, na ako yung unang-una na sing-along master sa buong Pilipinas. Minus one na sing-along master,” he said.
Allan K admitted he performed in a minus one karaoke bar, the first in the country.
“I started at Minus One Sing-Along bar. It was the first ever na sing along bar na gumamit ng minus one. Kasi ang mga may-ari no’n, mga dating nagdya-Japan.
“So sila yung mga nagdala ng eight track ng mga minus one ng Japan. So yun, dun ako nag-start. Ako ang unang-unang tumayo dun sa entablado,” revealed Allan K.
This came when he was asked to share his reaction upon having his 1998 musical videoke singing reality game show, Sing Galing!
According to the comedian-host, he was glad to know that the show was rebooted. It also meant that they did something good when it first aired on TV.
“S’yempre happy ako. Ibig sabihin, may iniwan kaming maganda. Kasi kung wala ka namang iniwan na maganda, yung Sing Galing! dati, wala namang sira ulong magre-revive no’n ‘diba?
“Parang kanta. Sino naman ang magre-revive ng kantang ni walang recall, ‘di ba?
“Gano’n lang yun. So happy ako na wow at least we’ve done something good in the past na eto s’ya o, nare-revive s’ya ulit.
“And nakakatuwa and surprisingly, tinangkilik pa rin s’ya ng tao, nakakatuwa.”
He was also happy to receive the acknowledgment he deserves after hosting the game show.
While he was one of the hosts on the 1998 Sing Galing!, Allan K has now become one of its judges or jukebosses together with Rey Valera, Randy Santiago, and K Brosas.
In the meantime, he has refrained from doing acting jobs, explaining that he’s not into doing movies or teleseryes except if Vic Sotto invites him in his films.
“Hindi kasi ako mas’yadong ma-movies talaga eh, tsaka mga teleserye, hindi ako ma-ganyan eh, hindi ako ‘yan eh.
“Kasi ang haba-haba ng oras. Ko-call time ka ng 9 a.m., siguro makakauwi ka anong oras na tapos ilang eksena ka lang naman, parang ganun.
“Movies din gano’n din. Kaya kung napansin mo lately or the last few years, ang labas ko lang sa mga movies eh mga guesting lang sa mga film fest movies ni bossing, ganun,” he explained.
Meanwhile, because of the pandemic, Allan K admitted he is surviving amid the situation.
The comedian-host used to have the comedy bars Klownz and Zirkoh. Unfortunately, because of Covid-19, both establishments filed for bankruptcy in 2020.
“Lumalaban, alam mo naman ang pandemic, nagsara ang ating mga bars, and kumonte ang mga raket, humina ang mga bagong bukas na negosyo. Pero, lumalaban kasi alam mo na, hindi ka p’wedeng padaig sa panahon, sa times.”
