Mang-iwan or iwanan? Angelica Panganiban shares thoughts on the complexities of breaking up

On January 31, Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban shared her thoughts on the complexities of breaking up.

During the media conference for their upcoming iWanTFC series, The Goodbye Girl, a reporter asked Panganiban about her thoughts on which was more difficult: the one who’s leaving or the one left behind.

Panganiban answered that it hurts more for those left behind in a relationship.

She noted people do leave their partners because they have to, especially if the relationship is already toxic. She then added that both have an equal emotional impact.

Kahit ikaw siguro ‘yung mang-iiwan, walang masayang–or madaling paraan para gawin ‘yun. So ang pang-iiwan ay pang-iiwan.”

Panganiban also recalled the challenge of portraying different roles of a broken-hearted woman.

She pointed out that the difference now is she’s more mature as a person because of her relationship experiences throughout the years.

“So difference lang din siguro ay ‘yung maturity din dahil noong ginawa ko naman ‘yung Tadhana, ay mas bata pa ako, at noong ginawa ko ‘to ngayon, ay ilang years after na rin siya, nasa mga 10 years na rin siguro.

“So sa sampung taon na rin ‘yun, siguro ilang bagahe na rin ‘yung napagdaanan ko, at nabitbit ko, at nalagpasan ko para maging mas mature siguro para maging mas calm and collected siya kapag nasasaktan na siya this time.”

Panganiban also admitted that it was challenging to portray a person who gives life and relationship advice.

She then concluded that a person needs to be a friend to others and themselves when giving advice.

“Just be a friend, and be a friend also to yourself, na kung ikaw manghihingi ka ng advice sa kaibigan mo, or mangyari ito sa kaibigan mo, ano ba talaga ang gusto mong sagot.

So ‘yun ‘yung best advice, di ba?

The Goodbye Girl stars Angelica Panganiban, JC De Vera, and RK Bagatsing.

The six-episode digital series include Loisa Andalio, Barbie Imperial, Maris Racal, and Elisse Joson. They show different women going through heartbreaks and relationship troubles.

Derick Cabrido directs the series based on Noreen Capili’s best-selling book, and it streams on iWanTFC on February 14, Valentine’s Day.
