Kapuso head writer for TV series, Suzette Doctolero took to social media to defend GMA Network’s Voltes V from the latest tirades from critics.
In a Facebook post on Monday, January 2, Doctolero explained why they had to insert a love story angle in the live adaptation of the classic Japanese cartoon series Voltes V.
“On V5. May reaction: bakit may love story at agawan?
“Sagot: manood muna bago mag Maritess at gumawa na naman ng sariling haka haka at mga hula (kahit hindi naman manghuhula).
The feisty Kapuso creative said that while the original cartoon series didn’t dwell on a love angle because it was intended to cater to children as its audience, the live adaptation targets all ages, most especially teens.
“True, walang love story doon sa anime kasi pambata iyon. Cartoons ang tawag naming mga golden era V5 fans. Wala talagang love story sa cartoons na ang target ay kids. Sinong lokong “cartoons” maker ang gagawa nun?”
She added that they need to humanize the characters since it is a live-action series, unlike the cartoon version.
“Pero dahil ito ay LIVE adaptations, at ang target ay all ages (mula bata hanggang matanda), kaya ginawa naming mas “humanized” ang mga characters. At bilang ang REYALIDAD ay mga kabataang guwapo at magaganda sina Steve, Big Bird, Mark at Jamee kaya yes, may love story. Na hindi malaking part sa kuwento pero mayroon. Imposibleng wala! ”
“Iba ang anime sa live adaptations. Kasama sa pagsusulat ng live adaptations ang adjustment na gawin silang tao as much as possible. Tao, okey? Hindi cartoons.”
Netizens, meanwhile, are divided on the topic, with some criticizing it because it deviates from the original story. But others, especially loyal Kapuso supporters, also defended the move.
But there’s one thing both sides agreed upon: the astounding graphics shown in the trailer that GMA Network recently released.
