GMA Network delighted fans of the renowned 1970s Japanese anime ‘Voltes V’ with the announcement of the cinematic release of the live adaptation series, ‘Voltes V: Legacy’.
The film, directed by Mark Reyes, was made possible by GMA Films President Annette Gozon-Valdes’ “crazy, brilliant” idea, as per Reyes.
On April 18, at a media conference and screening, Reyes explained the motivation behind the decision to release ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ in cinemas.
He emphasized the unparalleled experience of watching the film on the big screen. He said, “You saw the Boazanian Skull Ship in its massive entirety. You know, you’ll never get that on your tablet or on TV or on your phone.”
“That’s why GMA decided, panoorin n’yo ito kung gusto niyo. Hindi namin sinasabi na pinipilit namin kayo pero iba ang experience ng cinema. It’s surround sound. You see it on the big screen. You see Voltes V on a very big scale instead of watching it on TV. You have that choice. You’re lucky that you’ll be able to see what it’s all about,” the director added.
The cinematic version of ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ features the condensed first three weeks of the series, and it is set to air on Philippine TV on GMA on May 8. However, select SM cinemas have already begun showing the film, providing fans with an early opportunity to experience the highly anticipated adaptation on the big screen.
However, there were reported technical glitches during the first day of the screenings, leading to delays and inconvenience for ticket holders. In response, GMA apologized for the issues. It assured fans that efforts are being made to address and resolve glitches as soon as possible.
Despite the initial challenges, the release of ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ in cinemas has generated excitement among fans who eagerly await the live adaptation of the beloved anime.
The cinematic release of ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ marks a milestone in Filipino pop culture. It showcases anime’s power to capture audiences across generations.
