GMA Network’s Voltes V: Legacy made headlines for its impressive production value, evident in the lavish costumes costing over P350,000 each, intricate production design, and top-notch CGI effects that gave the series a world-class quality.
According to the director, the GMA videographics team working on the show is 250-strong. They also have an additional hundred people from Riot Inc., a post-production company that has worked on other GMA shows such as Encantadia. Aside from the post-production team, around 200 people work tirelessly on set to bring the show to life.
What’s even more remarkable is that Voltes V: Legacy is 100% Filipino-made.
“We’ve gone through a lot, we’ve sacrificed a lot of our time. This is such a legacy project talaga.” shared Assistant Vice President for Drama Helen Rose Sese.
The production of Voltes V: Legacy faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the added expenses and logistical challenges, the production team spared no expense to ensure that the visual and special effects were top-notch. Voltes V Legacy features highly detailed and complex mecha designs, and the production team worked tirelessly to bring these designs to life.
“The producers say, ‘Hindi natin to titipirin.’ Calling it a legacy project, it has to show,” said Voltes V: Legacy Director Mark Reyes.
During a press conference held on April 18, before the movie version of the series was released, lead actors Miguel Tanfelix (Steve Armstrong), Ysabel Ortega (Jamie Robinson), Matt Lozano (Robert or Big Bert), Radson Flores (Mark Gordon), and child actor Rafael Landicho (Little Jon) shared their experiences on the set.
According to Tanfelix, “Honestly nakakaiyak po. Kasi three years naming pinaghirapan itong show na ito so very emotional.”
In addition, Ortega bragged about the world-class quality of their show.
“We’re all fans of Hollywood movies na high quality ang graphics and “Voltes V: Legacy” is like that. Except the fact that it’s made entirely in the Philippines. It’s something to be proud of and curious about. At the same time, it’s a story of our age and kung ano ang mga pinagdadaanan nila in everyday life.”
The buzz surrounding the upcoming TV series has been building up as fans eagerly await its premiere on May 8. With such a massive investment in production value and a talented cast, it’s no wonder that Voltes V: Legacy is expected to make a big impact on Philippine television.
Said the director, “But we were at the point na if we don’t do it now, and no one starts this in the Philippines, trying to be ambitious and do this thing, this level, when will we start? Maraming nagsasabi na gusto natin lumevel up, improve. Ito na yung pruweba, ginastusan to, pinag-isipan, pinagtrabahuhan, pinaghirapan, ito na po. That’s why, you cannot tell us not to do it, may mga nagsasabi, “Bakit niyo pa ginawa yan?” No, kailangan natin gawin. If not us, who?”
