Only two previous acts have been given the same high score, since the singing competition’s return to Philippine television via ‘It’s Showtime’, more than seven years ago.
Tawag ng Tanghalan’s returning contestants, Jovany Saltera (25) and Aljun Alborme (24) brought the house down, during their bombastic duet performance of Delilah, on Tuesday, May 16. The two North Cotobato natives returned to the show as a pair competing in the long-running segment’s special season called TNT Duets.
While the pair’s 100% score from the three “hurados” who sat on the judging panel that day (Jona, Erik Santos, and Louie Ocampo) isn’t unique, it was nevertheless historic, as the last time it was given, was 5 years ago, when resbaker, Ato Arman, won his three-way bout versus Mark Michael Garcia and Arabella de la Cruz. Froilan Canlas, Noven Belleza’s runner-up in the first season of the show, is the first contestant to receive an overall 100% score, in 2016.
Both Saltera and Alborme made remarkable impressions during their respective seasons in ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan’. Saltera is known for his Tom Jones-ish style and affinity for classic English ballads, while Alborme made a mark through both his life story and impressive vocals.
Known collectively as the ‘Farmtastic Duo’, because of their farming roots, Saltera and Alborme faced off against the equally fantastic pair of Lucky Robles and Andrey Magada. They managed nevertheless a very impressive, but not enough average score of 94%.
Because of their victory last Tuesday, Saltera and Alborme will compete again in the weekly finals, which happen this Saturday, May 20.
