On August 9, actress Bela Padilla revealed that she and JC Santos have declined love-team projects.
At the media conference for ‘Wish You Were The One,’ which LionhearTV covered, Padilla remarked that she and Santos are more conscious now when accepting projects for their pairing.
“I feel like we’ve come to a point na because nga pang-anim na namin ‘to. Parang we’re very conscious now what projects we do together. So this isn’t like the sixth script that was sent to us, marami na rin pong dumaan na we have to let go off, because parang we felt the material was too young for us, or nagawa na namin siya sa Stella, or sa 366 or Vodka. So may mga binibitawan din po kaming mga projects ni JC.”
She then highlighted how much effort they put into a project when accepting offers for their on-screen pairing.
“Pag naman may tinanggap kami, sobrang tanggap na tanggap namin or parang we really make sure, kasi naalala ko bago kami mag-shooting nito, nagtatawagan kami na nasa bahay ako ni Angelica, sa Subic, magkausap kami ni JC na, ‘Ano, basahin natin ‘yung script? Himayin natin? Ganyan-ganyan.’ Kaso ‘yung nga, pupunta pa ko ng Subic so hindi kami nag-abot.
“But mayroon kaming conscious effort na feeling ko, like hindi na namin sinabi kay Direk Derick, na hindi alam ng team, hindi alam ng handlers, managers namin, na we really put in the work, even before the work starts.”
Santos expressed excitement for their roles in ‘Wish You Were The One,’ citing how they plan to showcase a different portrayal from their previous projects.
“Exciting ‘yung part that we’re really good scene partners, na we help each other na lagi naming ginugulat ‘yung isa’t isa na may lalabas na bago. And of course, siyempre, may part kami na, ah nakita ko na ‘to, nagawa na natin ‘to, nagawa na niya ‘to. Tapos mayroon pa ring effort to change it.
“And ‘yun nga sabi ni Direk, lagi namin siyang gustong maging maganda. So I’m one of the actors na gusto ko pinapanood ko ‘yung ginagawa ko eh para makita natin kung paano ‘yung gusto ni Direk sa pelikula.”
Padilla and Santos worked on six projects as an on-screen pairing, such as ‘100 Daang Tula Para Kay Stella’ (2017), ‘The Day After Valentine’s’ (2018), ‘On Vodka, Beers, and Regrets’ (2020), and Padilla’s film ‘366’ (2022).
They also worked on ‘Miracle in Cell No. 7’ (2019) but not as an on-screen pairing.
‘Wish You Were The One’ stars Padilla and Santos. The cast also features Romnick Sarmenta, Kean Cipriano, Franki Russell, Kaladkaren, Andrea Babierra, Andrew Muhlach, Cheska Ortega, Itan Magnaye, Peach Caparas, Charizz Po, and Charles Delgado.
Under the direction of Derick Cabrido, the Viva Films movie opens in cinemas on August 23.
