Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero has been making waves on social media due to his recent fashion-forward appearances, including wearing a stud earring and a stylish white jacket at a Senate hearing on August 16, 2023.
Netizens have coined the term “New Chiz Escudero” to describe his updated look.
So, what’s the story behind Senator Chiz’s newfound fashion sense? ABS-CBN News Channel’s Karen Davila sat down with the senator for an exclusive interview to find out.
Karen started by addressing the social media buzz, saying, “We have netizens saying, ‘There’s a New Chiz Escudero.’ Light na ‘to, I can’t resist. So, you’re out in Fashion Week more, surprisingly. There are more photos of you everywhere, and we have netizens commenting you look different. What’s happening, Senator?”
With a chuckle, Senator Chiz explained that his presence at Fashion Week in Paris was purely in support of his wife, actress and fashion icon Heart Evangelista.
“Ako lang yung alalay sa likod ng asawa ko tuwing may Fashion Week at libre at bakante ako. Ako yung taga-laba, taga-luto, taga-linis, taga-tahi, pag may kailangang tahiin.”
He went on to clarify that his well-dressed appearances are occasional and not an everyday occurrence. He said, “I only dress up occasionally. It’s not all the time.
“Nakukumbinsi lang at napipilit.”
On a more serious note, the senator emphasized the importance of focusing on longevity rather than just looking good. He said, “So far as the others are concerned, well Karen, like you, tumatanda tayo. And our objective should be longevity; not really to look good, but more on being healthy and to preserve and have longevity. Longevity should be the objective.”
It may be recalled that in May of this year, a photo of the 53-year-old politician with microbladed eyebrows circulated widely on social media. The photo was taken during a romantic getaway in Italy with Heart during Fashion Week.
Chiz’s new look received mixed reactions from netizens, with some noting that Heart’s passion for fashion seemed to have influenced her husband. This influence is further evident in recent photos of Senator Chiz looking stylish and well-groomed while strolling the streets of Europe.
