Singer Anji Salvacion’s determination to overcome a challenging family life fuels her ‘grit,’ a quality she highlighted during Star Magic’s ‘Spotlight’ press conference on March 13th in Quezon City, Philippines.
“Hindi kami mayaman, so we have to work hard,” said the singer. “I really have to have that grit. Simula pa lang.”
The Pinoy Big Brother: Kumunity Season 10 winner had to help her single mother survive, even acting as her younger brother’s father.
“Unang-una sa lahat, tatlo lang kami sa family ko, my mother, my brother, and me. Wala na kaming daddy. So as an older sister, as the eldest, I have to stand up coz’ my mom she’s a nurse, but then we all know that nurses are not paid well. Overworked and underpaid. Minsan, hindi pa nababayaran.
“So naawa ako sa mom ko, and I have to stand up. If I have to take my dad’s place, I will for them,” shared the artist.
Salvacion entered showbusiness through the 2019 singing competition ‘Idol Philippines,’ with the hope of meeting her long-lost father. She has come a long way, using her family as inspiration to continue amid the struggles.
“They are the grit that I’m holding on, and they are my inspiration. I will always have that grit in life because tatlo na lang kami. Sino pa ba ang magtutulungan kundi kami-kami na lang.”
Her grit is also the inspiration behind her brand new EP ‘Grit.’ It is now available for streaming on all music platforms.
