Serving as Marian Rivera’s comeback TV series, My Guardian Alien, banks on immersive visuals, heartwarming story, and impressive directorial direction, to deliver an intergalactic primetime spectacle.
Synopsis: Marian Rivera plays the goddess-looking, 11-1-20-8-5-22-9-12-5, an extra-terrestrial being, who has assumed the form of the deceased human, Katherine. Her arrival to the lives of father-and-son, Carlos (Gabby Concepcion) and Doy (Raphael Landicho), serves as both a blessing and a curse, as it marks a transformative journey for Carlos’ family, while it also exposes their lives to an impending intergalactic threat, one Katherine must prevent, while also keeping her true identity concealed.
Visual Brilliance. Zig Dulay’s tasteful direction immerses viewers into a visual feast, right from the opening frames. The world he built in My Guardian Alien, is one that does not only draw attention because of its immersive storytelling, but because of its flair and brilliance, that’s very refreshing in the local setting. Dulay delivers a stunning, otherworldly world, creating breathtaking landscapes both for the story’s celestial and Earthly settings. His ingenuity seems be fully employed in this series, as every scene in it, looked masterfully done and felt like a brushstoke on a cosmic canvass.
Dulay’s Directorial Flair. Dulay is an absolute master of flair in this endearing primetime drama, as his fresh approach is front and center in the series. He injected vitality not just to the sci-fi genre, but perhaps, more importantly, to the family, drama, and romance genres. The comcotion he came up with, certainly oozes with ingenuity, warmth, and excitement. Through his increbible wit at storytelling, and his enormous ability to balance emotional depth, drama and adventure, he crafted a remarkable story, that has the power to move and inspire audiences.
Stellar Performances. My Guardian Alien has its hooks anchored upon the powerful portrayals of its cast, in ensuring it delivered an engaging ‘alien’ story. As Carlos, Concepcion breathed to life a grieving husband, who is simultaneously making moving forward much easier for his son, Doy. Landicho has a knack at playing his child roles, and as Doy, he does not surprise for pulling off the role exceptionally. But the biggesr kudos goes to Marian for her enigmatic take on Katherine. The first week of the series, alone, showed that her character would embody the determination of anyone to succeed against struggles while perfoming their responsibility to duty, as well as love.
My Guardian Alien weaves elements of sci-fi and drama, beatifully, that it is not surprising during its first week, alone, on air, it was already able to deliver a riveting cosmic tale, driven by visual flair and immersive storytelling.
