While Pulang Araw remains in the Top 10 of Netflix Philippines’ most streamed TV shows, three weeks in a row, it continues to bleed in the TV ratings game, posting mostly only half of the ratings its rival show, FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, continues to enjoy. Last Monday, the Coco Martin-starrer hit a new all-time high of 18.3, nearly 10-point ahead of Pulang Araw’s 8.8. On Tuesday, Batang Quiapo pulled off an 18.0 people rating, again with a gargantuan lead of 9.9 points over Pulang Araw‘s 8.1.
Pulang Araw notably hit a new-all time low for any Kapuso series on the first primetime slot, plunging to 8.0, on Friday, August 16. Is this weak rating performance of Pulang Araw pulling Widows’ War‘s ratings down? The Bea Alonzo-topbilled series has been consistently threatened by the Kapamilya action family-drama, to overtake leadership on its timeslot. Pamilya Sagrado, has in fact, surged ahead Widows’ War in the same-timeslot ratings battle, three times, with both shows posting identical ratings on two occasions. Last Tuesday, August 20, Pamilya Sagrado soared to 8.3, ahead of Widows’ War’s 8.0, a thin advantage but remarkable, nevertheless, for the ABS-CBN drama.
Fans of both shows have been speculating about the never-before-seen tightness in battle, between the two shows. Let’s not forget, Pamilya Sagrado is way ahead its rival show, as far as live concurrent viewership on YouTube, is concerned, averaging a peak of 400,000-700,000 live viewers, nightly. Widows’ War continues to improve in live concurrent numbers, but its combined viewership on YouTube and Facebook, reaching 70,000, is still undoubtedly dwarfed by its Kapamilya counterpart.

With these observations, is Widows’ War getting pulled down by the weak pre-programming ratings of Pulang Araw? Should their be a re-shuffling of programs on GMA Network’s primetime block, as some fans suggest?
