Former senator and boxing icon Manny Pacquiao has attributed the growing number of teenage pregnancies in the country to what he describes as “sexual immorality,” urging parents to instill faith in God and moral discipline in their children.

Speaking at a press conference for his political party, Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, on February 21, Pacquiao stressed the crucial role of parents in educating their children on self-respect and responsible decision-making.
According to Pacquiao, teenage pregnancy can be prevented if children are taught to follow religious principles and avoid engaging in premarital relationships.
“Turuan sila na may Panginoon dahil labag talaga sa Panginoon ‘yang sexual immorality habang hindi pa kayo nag-aasawa,” he said.
He also pointed out that engaging in “sinful acts” often leads to struggles in life.
“Kaya nagkandahirap-hirap tayo dahil ayaw ng Panginoon na mag-commit tayo ng sin against God,” he added.
Pacquiao emphasized that parents should take an active role in shaping their children’s values and ensuring they make responsible choices.
“Para sa akin, i-encourage natin ‘yung mga magulang na i-educate ‘yung mga kabataan nila na ‘wag pumasok sa ganyan,” he urged.
While acknowledging that falling in love is natural, he stressed that young people must be guided to develop a strong sense of faith and morality.
“Yung sexual immorality talagang laganap sa buong mundo, and I’m sure na tayong mga magulang, responsibilidad natin na turuan ang ating mga anak na huwag pumasok sa ganyan. Turuan ng magandang asal.”
“Magkaroon sila ng takot sa Panginoon, ‘yan ang pinakaimportante,” he concluded.
Pacquiao, who served as senator from 2016 to 2022, is seeking a return to the Senate in the 2025 midterm elections under the endorsement of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
His conservative stance on social issues has long been a topic of debate, particularly his views on sex education, reproductive health, and LGBTQ+ rights. His latest remarks are expected to spark further discussions on the role of religion and parental guidance in addressing societal concerns such as teenage pregnancy.
As the election season heats up, Pacquiao’s statements will likely shape conversations on morality, education, and governance, especially among conservative and religious communities.
