‘It’s Showtime’ host Anne Curtis has expressed deep concern over the recent wave of tragic vehicular accidents in the country, particularly those involving children.
In a heartfelt post on her Facebook page, Anne urged government agencies to take more decisive action to improve road safety standards.
“Seeing so many vehicle accidents on the news with lives tragically taken. So many young lives being taken away so soon,” she wrote.
Anne’s post came in response to two recent incidents that have sparked public outrage and grief. One involved a family whose car crash along SCTEX resulted in multiple fatalities, leaving a two-year-old child orphaned. The other, which recently occurred at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, claimed the life of a five-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man after an SUV rammed into the departure area.
The driver involved in the NAIA accident is currently facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries, and property damage. His license has already been suspended by the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and he has undergone drug and alcohol testing.
For Anne, these incidents highlight the need for stronger regulatory oversight.
“I truly pray and hope this is a wake-up call for those in the DOTr and LTO to find ways to ensure that drivers and vehicles on the roads meet the highest safety and licensing standards,” she said.
She also offered her sympathies to the grieving families: “My heart goes out to all those left to grieve for their parents, significant other, family member and their children.”
