The Miss Grand International Organization (MGI) has officially revoked the title and crown of Rachel Gupta, the reigning Miss Grand International 2024 from India, citing “multiple violations of protocol and contract.”

Rachel, who made history as the first Indian winner of the MGI crown during the finals held in Bangkok, Thailand in October 2024, was removed from her position for alleged non-compliance with her duties and engagements.
In an official statement, MGI detailed the reasons for the dethronement: “This decision follows her failure to fulfill her assigned duties, engagement in external projects without prior approval from the organization, and her refusal to participate in the scheduled trip to Guatemala.”
Effective immediately, the organization announced that Gupta is no longer recognized as Miss Grand International 2024 and is required to return the crown within 30 days.
“Miss Rachel Gupta is no longer authorized to use the title or wear the crown associated with Miss Grand International 2024,” the statement continued. “We uphold the values of responsibility, professionalism, and commitment to our cause. Every queen crowned under Miss Grand International carries the weight of this mission.”
Shortly after MGI’s statement, Rachel Gupta issued her own rebuttal on social media, claiming that she was not removed, but rather resigned due to internal issues within the organization.
“It is with deep regret that I share this news: I have made the decision to step down as Miss Grand International 2024 and return my crown,” Gupta declared. “Being crowned was one of the most cherished dreams of my life, and I was filled with hope and pride to represent my country and make history.
“However, the months following my crowning have been marked by broken promises, mistreatment, and a toxic environment I can no longer endure in silence.”
Gupta also hinted that she would release a tell-all video soon: “This decision was not made lightly. In the coming days, I will be releasing a full video sharing the details behind this difficult journey.”
She ended her statement by addressing her supporters: “I ask for your compassion, your open hearts, and your continued support as I take this next step. Your love means more than you know.”
The dethronement has sparked intense speculation among pageant fans that first runner-up CJ Opiaza from the Philippines may now be elevated to the title. If confirmed, CJ would become the first-ever Filipina to hold the Miss Grand International crown—a milestone achievement for the Philippines in the pageant scene.
As of this writing, the Miss Grand International Organization has not yet confirmed who will assume the title. However, all eyes are now on CJ Opiaza as the possible successor.
