Liza Soberano’s recent tell-all vlog ‘Can I Come In?’ has drawn both sympathy and skepticism.
While many netizens expressed compassion after the actress opened up about her difficult childhood in the United States—including parental separation, abuse, and life in foster homes—not everyone is convinced.
Veteran showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin, in the latest episode of her YouTube program ‘Showbiz Now Na’ with Romel Chika and Wendell Alvarez, questioned the timing and credibility of some of Liza’s statements.
“Unang-una, kung ang lahat ng kwento ni Liza Soberano sa kanyang litanyang ito ay totoo, ay nako, nakakaawa talaga siya. Sobra siyang nakakakaawa… pero ang tanong nga ng marami, kahit ako ang tanong ko, bakit ngayon lang?” Cristy remarked.
She added that if Liza had shared her story earlier in her career, the public might have understood her better. “Ang tanong na lamang po, bakit kasi ngayon lang niya ito inilantad. Dapat noong pumasok siya sa lokal na aliwan ‘nung mag-artista siya inilahad na niya itong kwentong ito, nakuha pa niya ang simpatya ng publiko.”
What raised more doubts for Cristy was Liza’s claim of remembering traumatic experiences as early as two years old.
“Dalawang taong gulang? Paano ko mapagkakatiwalaan ang kwento at pagbabalik-tanaw ng dalawang taong gulang? Sa edad na ‘yan, ang alam lang ng bata kumain, matulog, maglaro,” she said.
Cristy then compared this supposed memory retention to what she sees as Liza’s failure to acknowledge her former home network and manager when she left Philippine showbiz.
“Retentive pala siya, pero bakit nung umalis siya dito sa showbiz ay hindi niya naalala na pasalamatan ang ABS-CBN at si Ogie Diaz na naging daan sa kanyang pangarap?” Fermin added.
Towards the end of her commentary, Cristy speculated that Liza’s sudden revelations may be connected to her career trajectory abroad.
“Ano ba ‘to, desperate move? Ito ba’y nagiging desperada na si Liza Soberano dahil epic fail ang kanyang Hollywood dream?” she asked.
Her co-hosts Romel Chika and Wendell Alvarez agreed with her skepticism, further questioning how much of Liza’s revelations can be taken at face value.
Cristy’s remarks have fueled debate online. Some continue to admire Liza’s courage in revisiting painful memories, while others share Cristy’s doubts over the timing and accuracy of her claims.
