After six years of waiting for a breakthrough, Lance Carr finally landed his first lead role as Dr. Clyden Ramirez in Viva’s ‘Avenues of the Diamond’.
But not everyone was on board with the casting.
“I’d be lying if I say na wala sa’kin ’yan,” Lance admitted during a solo press conference on July 30, reacting to negative comments that surfaced after his casting was announced. “I didn’t really dwell on kung ano ’yong sinasabi nila pero [I remember them saying na] ‘Hindi siya bagay sa role na ’to’ and I took it personal din.”
Instead of letting the criticism break him, Lance said it became a source of motivation.
“Just wait and see and I will work hard for it and I will prove to each one of you na kaya kong gampanan ’yong role na ’yon,” he declared. “Buti nangyari ’yon kasi mas nadagdagan ’yong fuel ko, ’yong fire ko na ma-portray itong role na ito and prove a lot of people wrong.”
Lance revealed it took six years before finally landing his lead role and confessed that he once thought of quitting showbiz altogether.
“It took me six years pa para maabot yung first lead role ko,” he shared. “So there was really a matter of patience and, yes, I actually wanted to—me, my mom and my dad were thinking of quitting showbiz. And I was actually thinking of pursuing a career in basketball again.”
But just when he was on the verge of giving up, Viva gave him a chance.
“Luckily, sobrang nagpapasalamat ako sa Viva na binigyan nila ako ng opportunity at ng tiwala, most of all, to portray Dr. Clyden Ramirez,” Lance said.
Asked whether he felt any pressure being launched alongside fellow Viva matinee idols like Andres Muhlach and Rabin Angeles, Lance gave a grounded response.
“At the end of the day, kakampi ko sila. We’re all under one family sa Viva and I’m happy for them na they have their own thing, they have their own projects,” he said. “I don’t treat them as competition din. Ang kompetisyon ko lang ay sarili ko.”
Lance was introduced as Clyden during a special Valentine’s episode of ‘Anong Ganap?’ on February 13. The series, adapted from Gwy Saludes’ fourth University Series novel on Wattpad, premiered on April 11 and continues to stream on Viva One.
Following ‘Avenues of the Diamond’, Lance will appear in ‘Minamahal’, a film starring Andres Muhlach and Ashtine Olviga, scheduled for release this September. He is also part of VIVARKADA, a fancon and concert set at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 15, featuring stars from University Series, ‘Ang Mutya ng Section E’, ‘Seducing Drake Palma’, and ‘Bad Genius: The Series’.
