Actor Albie Casiño said becoming a father influenced him to speak up more about national issues, including his recent criticism of civil engineer and content creator Slater Young over the controversial The Rise at Monterrazas hillside development in Cebu.

During the story conference of his upcoming psychological horror film ‘Andoy’ on Thursday, Nov. 13, in Quezon City, Casiño shared that his non-showbiz partner encouraged him to focus on issues affecting the Philippines.
“I guess we can thank my baby mama. Lagi niyang sinasabi sa akin that you’re so vocal about US politics, never about your own,” he said. “Now I have a son, so I guess I’m more political now. Dati naman, wala naman akong pakialam kung ano mangyayari sa iba. But now that I have a son, I want to leave a better future for him.”
Casiño recently went viral for calling out Young on social media, questioning the engineer’s silence amid renewed backlash linking the Monterrazas project to heavy flooding in Cebu.
“Nung nagsimula ‘yung project, parang marami siyang sinasabi na hindi daw mangyayari, pero nangyari,” he said. “Wala masyadong nag-uusap about it, kasi I guess friend nila ‘yung asawa (Kryz Uy). That’s selective outrage.”
He added that he does not personally know Young, but that would not stop him from speaking publicly.
The actor said he was affected by videos circulating online showing families trapped on rooftops during severe flooding.
“It’s just sad the state of what’s going on now,” he said. “Like the video of them on the roof, tapos ‘yung bata nagsabi na, ‘Mommy, we lost everything.’ It breaks your heart.”
Casiño urged Young to address the public.
“As a man, maybe speak up. Say something — condolences to the families, to the people who lost loved ones. Kahit ’yun na lang.”
Casiño also previously criticized former party-list representative Zaldy Co in relation to alleged anomalous flood control projects.
He said his Christmas wish is for corrupt individuals to finally be held accountable.
“I don’t wish death on anybody because there’s no coming back from death. Pero let’s hold them accountable. Doon na lang,” he said.
The media story conference for Casiño’s upcoming film ‘Andoy’, a psychological torture horror movie from Wonderlust Films, was held at Sparx Cafe in Quezon City.
The film marks the feature-length directorial debut of Mark Putian, known for his work in short films and music videos.

Cast members in attendance included Cedrick Juan, Jennica Garcia, Albie Casiño, Angelica Lao, and Victor Relosa.
Paolo Gumabao and Aya Fernandez, who are also part of the cast, were not present.
‘Andoy’ is expected to open in cinemas in the first quarter of 2026. (With reports from Aldrine Benitez)
