Ogie Alcasid has candidly shared his reflections on paying taxes, expressing concern over whether Filipinos’ hard-earned contributions are being properly used by the government.

In a Facebook post published on Thursday, January 22, the singer-songwriter and TV host revealed that the reminder from his accountant about an upcoming tax deadline prompted deeper reflection and prayer.
“This morning after my prayers and devotion, my accountant alerted me that taxes will be paid again and deadline is on Monday,” Alcasid wrote.
He admitted that fulfilling tax obligations can be emotionally taxing, especially when there is uncertainty about how public funds are handled.
“It can take a toll on us when we see how much we part with for the hardwork we put out and not know if our contributions are safeguarded,” he added.
Alcasid said the situation pushed him to pray not only for himself, but for the country as a whole, stressing the need for integrity in public service.
“Perhaps, God wanted me to pray harder for this country. We Filipinos deserve an honest government,” he wrote, ending his post with a simple plea: “Lord, please help the Philippines.”
The post resonated strongly with netizens, many of whom echoed his call for good governance and transparency. Several commenters urged fellow Filipinos to remain vigilant, vocal, and engaged in national issues, while others emphasized the importance of collective prayer for the country’s future.
Alcasid’s sentiments come amid renewed public frustration over alleged corruption and the misuse of public funds, particularly in relation to controversial government projects. In recent months, several public figures have also spoken out about the burden of paying taxes without seeing corresponding improvements in public services.
Previously, Alcasid’s wife, Regine Velasquez, shared similar frustrations, questioning why Filipino taxpayers continue to endure poor public services despite faithfully paying their dues.
