Singer-actor Elmo Magalona has clarified that he never had a romantic relationship with former loveteam partner Julie Anne San Jose, despite long-standing fan speculation.
During his guest appearance on ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda’ on March 27, Elmo addressed questions about their real-life relationship at the height of their popularity as a tandem.
“No! We were very good friends [who] really wanted to help each other bring our careers up during that time,” he said.
The two were previously paired in several projects under GMA Network, including the film ‘Just One Summer’ and the youth-oriented show ‘Together Forever’, where their chemistry gained a strong fan following.
Elmo explained that their on-screen closeness may have led fans to assume there was something more between them.
“Parang ganu’n ‘yung nakikita nila, e, during the time na we were having loveteam performances together. But yeah, we were really good friends,” he added.
He also clarified that he never pursued Julie Anne romantically.
In fact, Elmo expressed admiration for her professionalism and dedication to her craft.
“She’s a very talented woman. I think we were just really too young to really give what the supporters wanted. We were really doing it because we both enjoyed performing, pero it just got to a point where people are looking for something more,” he shared.
At present, Julie Anne is in a relationship with Rayver Cruz, while Elmo revealed that he is currently single and not actively seeking a relationship.
“For me, it’s kind of hard to go back to some relationship. I think right now, I just want to like chill lang and not to look into a relationship right now,” he said.
